As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

  • Manuscripts submitted must be in Indonesian, and abstracts must be in Indonesian and English.
  • The writing template can be downloaded at this link.
  • Two independent reviewers will review manuscripts submitted for publication, and if necessary, corrections must be resubmitted by the author.
  • Manuscripts that do not comply with Biological Scientific Periodicals (BIB) standards will be returned to the author for correction.
  • Corrections/suggestions from reviewers for each manuscript will be sent to the author before it is accepted/approved for printing.
  • The final manuscript that the author has corrected must be returned along with comments from the reviewer.
  • Several revisions are usually required after review, and final acceptance generally depends on the results of the revisions.
  • In submitting a revised manuscript, the author is asked to explain how the revision was carried out and why they disagree with the corrections/suggestions that the author has not revised.
  • Manuscripts are considered withdrawn if the author does not respond within three months after the review results are provided.
  • As contact person, the author will be notified of the editor's final decision.

Admission Procedure

Manuscripts received must be submitted online via the Biology Scientific Periodical Open Journal System (OJS) in Microsoft Word format.

Aim and Scope

Periodically, Scientific Biology encourages the submission of manuscripts related to Functional Biology, Structure and Development, Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, as well as Environmental Biology and Biodiversity.

Article type

The journal accepts manuscripts as original research papers, review articles and short communications. Original research papers must be written in no more than 8,000 words (including tables and figures) or proportional to the articles in this publication number. Review articles will be accommodated, while short communications must be written at least 2,000 words, except for pre-studies.

Publication period

This journal is published (printed) in January-April, May-August, and September-December (starting in 2022). However, online publication occurs immediately after acceptance.

Manuscript Delivery

  • The journal only accepts manuscript submissions through the open journal system and emails to the managing editor at bibjurnal.biologi@ugm.ac.id.
  • Manuscripts should be accompanied by a cover letter containing the title of the article, first and last names of all authors, a paragraph explaining the claimed novelty of the findings versus current knowledge, and a list of five suggested national or international reviewers (title, name, postage address, email address).
  • Write at least two reviewer recommendations (Name, email, agency) in the "Comment for the Editor" section when submitting via OJS
  • Reviewers should not have any conflicts of interest involving the author or manuscript.
  • The editor is not obliged to use reviews suggested by the author.
  • Submission of a manuscript implies that the submitted work has not been previously published (except as part of a thesis report or abstract) and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
  • When a group writes a manuscript, all authors must read and approve the final version of the submitted manuscript and its revisions and approve the submission of the manuscript to this journal.
  • All authors must have made substantial contributions to the concept and design of the study, data acquisition and analysis, drafting of the manuscript and proofreading revisions.
  • All authors must be responsible for their work's quality, accuracy and ethics.

Manuscript Preparation

Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure that:

  • All authors have approved the manuscript.
  • The structure of the manuscript follows the BIB writing guidelines.
  • The abstract provides a clear description of the contents of the paper.
  • BIB limits the number of references cited: at least 20 for research articles and 60 for review articles.
  • Abstracts are written in Indonesian and English (maximum 200 words).
  • Original research articles and reviews of no more than 8,000 words (including tables and figures).
  • The manuscript is arranged in sections according to those in the template.
  • The scientific name of the species is written in italics.
  • Biochemical and chemical nomenclature must follow IUPAC - IUB rules.

 

Title

  • Article titles are written in concise, clear and informative sentences, preferably under 20 words.
  • The author's name is written in full, especially the first and last name.
  • The name and address of the institution are written complete with street name and number (location), postal code, telephone number, fax number and email address.

Authors

  • The composition of the author's name cannot be changed again after the manuscript has been submitted to us
  • If there is a change in the order or role of authors, a statement must be included stating the agreement of all authors
  • Corresponding author is only allowed one name

Abstract

  • The maximum abstract consists of 200 words.
  • The abstract should be informative and briefly state the research objectives, methods, results, and main conclusions.
  • There are no references in the abstract.
  • Abbreviations should be avoided.

Keywords

           Consists of five words, ordered from A to Z.

Introduction

           Consists of 400-600 words, covers the research objectives, provides adequate background

Materials and methods

           Must emphasize procedures and data analysis.

Results and Discussion

           Written in the form of a connecting sentence, it can be divided into several subheadings. The discussion explains why and how the research results were observed, and does not just restate the results in sentence form.

Conclusion

           Conclusions are given at the end of the discussion.

Acknowledgement

           Written briefly for research funding sources and parties who support research.

Figures and Tables

  • The image title is written below the image, while the table title is written above the table.
  • Authors can send images or photos to be used as front covers.
  • All images that are not your own must state the source.
  • There are no appendices, all data or data analysis is included in Results and Discussion.
