As a peer-reviewed journal, this policy explains the ethical guideline for publishing to all parties involved in manuscript publication Jurnal Ilmu Kehutanan (JIK), including the author(s), editors (editor-in chief and associate editor), and the peer-reviewers. All manuscripts submitted to this journal must follow the JIK’s focus and scope and author guidelines. The submitted manuscripts must address scientific merit or novelty appropriate to the focus and scope. The following statement is relied on Practice Guidelines for publication as in Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE’s Best).

In general, all parties should:

  1. 1. Promote fairness and equality and oppose discrimination;
  2. 2. Promote the transparency of and respect for the academic record;
  3. 3. Respect the confidentiality of others;
  4. 4. Be transparent about real or apparent competing interests.

Authors should ensure that:

  1. 1. Their work is original and written by them;
  2. 2. Authorship of the paper is accurately represented, including ensuring that all individuals credited as authors participated in the actual authorship of the work and that all who participated are credited and have given consent for publication.
  3. 3. Their work has not been previously published and has been submitted only to the journal where material is taken from other sources (including their own published writing); the source is clearly cited and that where appropriate permission is obtained;
  4. 4. Any real or apparent conflicting or competing interest is clearly stated on submission of their paper (this would include funding assistance);
  5. 5. Their data is true and not manipulated;
  6. 6. Their data is their own or that they have permission to use data reproduced in their paper;
  7. 7. They adhere to all research ethics guidelines of their discipline, particularly where human or animal subjects are involved;
  8. 8. Their work does not infringe on any rights of others, including privacy rights and intellectual property rights;
  9. 9. They contact the Editor to identify and correct any material error upon discovery, whether it is prior or subsequent to publication of their work;

Reviewers must:

  1. 1. Maintain the confidentiality of the review process;
  2. 2. Immediately alert their journal editor of any actual or potential competing interest that could affect the impartiality of their reviewing and decline to review where appropriate;
  3. 3. Conduct themselves fairly and impartially.

Editors should:

  1. 1. Maintain and promote consistent ethical policies for their journals.
  2. 2. Oversee and act to enforce those policies as needed fairly and consistently.
  3. 3. Ensure the confidentiality of the review process.
  4. 4. Exercise the highest standards of personality integrity in their work as Editor of the journal, recognizing and planning, for instances, where they could have a competing interest or the appearance of a competing interest.
  5. 5. Work with authors, reviewers, and Editorial Board members as necessary to ensure they are sufficiently advised regarding their journals’ ethics and publishing policies and that the Journal’s stewardship on ethical matters is fair, unbiased, and timely.

Generally, where there is a suspected conflict of interest for an article, JIK will find new reviewers, even if this happens after publication. An editorial board member can submit a manuscript to this journal, and a different Section Editor will manage the handling of the manuscript professionally. Conflicts of interest will be stated when an editorial board member publishes in their own journal, so that readers are aware that they recused themselves from the regular editorial and peer review process.

If corrections are needed, JIK will publish errata or erratum to correct errors that occurred during the publishing process (errata) or errors made by the author (corrigendum). Authors may request retraction, or withdraw their manuscript for consideration, for any reason, and at any time before they assign copyright or signing the licence agreement. JIK may also notify retraction for a significant error, ethical violations such as plagiarism, duplicate publication, authorship dispute or other ethical allegations, or other legal issue. However, it would be unethical for authors to use this option to help with submitting their work to multiple journals or to get feedback that could be used to submit the article to a higher-ranked journal.
