Jurnal Ilmu Kehutanan (JIK) was established in 2007 and registered with ISSN 0126-4451 (print). Until 2011, manuscripts were handled manually via email from submission to publication.
After 2011, JIK started using online journal version 2 (OJS2) and collaborated with PERSAKI (Persatuan Sarjana Kehutanan Indonesia) for publication. After submission, manuscripts were screened for plagiarism and peer-reviewed in double-blind. In 2014, JIK initially registered for e-ISSN with numbers 2477-3751. The former JIK website with OJS2 was https://jurnal.ugm.ac.id/jikfkt.
As a progress, JIK was accredited as a scientific periodical journal by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education with Sinta (Science and Technology Index) 2, which was valid between 2016 (Volume 10 Issue 2) and 2020 (Volume 14 Issue 2) in 2016. The number of published articles increased from six articles to 10 articles per issue, starting with Volume 11 Issue 1 Year 2017. Only in 2020 did JIK embrace the open access policy, which states that all copyrights are reserved by JIK and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution CC-BY.
In 2020, the Directorate General of Research Enhancement and Development, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education re-accredited JIK. JIK maintained its accreditation with Sinta 2, letter No. 85/M/KPT/2020, which was valid from 2019 (Volume 15 Issue 1) to 2024 (Volume 18 Issue 2).
Currently, JIK is indexed by (1) SINTA, i.e., Science and Technology Index, a web-based research information system on the performance of researchers, institutions, and journals in Indonesia; (2) Garuda, i.e., a portal that contains Indonesian scientific references and provides access to scientific works produced by Indonesian academics and researchers; (3) Google Scholar; (4) Dimension.
In 2021, JIK upgraded the online journal system to version 3 (OJS3) and started publishing the accepted manuscripts online first. Due to the upgrade to OJS3, JIK has been re-registered under e-ISSN 2477375. The website has also been renewed under the link https://jurnal.ugm.ac.id/v3/jik.
Since 2022, the Journal has allowed the authors to hold the copyright without restrictions and allow the authors to retain publishing rights without restrictions. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License CC-BY-NC-SA. This license allows others to share the work with an acknowledgment of the work's authorship and initial publication in this Journal. As per the latest updates, JIK has published its articles fully in English since 2022, starting in Volume 16 Issue 2 Year 2022 until now. A renewal of the agreement with PERSAKI was signed in January 2024.
