Journal History

Journal of the Civil Engineering Forum (JCEF) is a four-monthly journal on Civil Engineering and Environmental related sciences. The journal was established by Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada in 1992 as Forum Teknik Sipil, a six-monthly journal published in Bahasa Indonesia, where the first publication was issued as Volume I/1 - January 1992 under the name of Forum Teknik Sipil. The issue of Volume I/2 - July 1992, i.e. the second issue of the journal, is known for the first time of the journal published with the International Standard Series Number ISSN 0854-1116. It was in 2007 that the journal was then published in English and the name became the Civil Engineering Forum. The design and format of the publication were renewed in 2009 with new number ISSN 2089-5631 (print version). The rapid growth of information technology has made the idea of operating the journal through the Open Journal System or OJS. Starting in 2016 the name of the Civil Engineering Forum journal was changed into Journal of the Civil Engineering Forum (JCEF) with ISSN 2549-5925 (online version). Furthermore, since the Vol. 3 No. 2 (May 2017) issue, JCEF uses the ISSN 2581-1037 (print version). The JCEF is sponsored by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in cooperation with Indonesian Association of Hydraulics Engineers (HATHI), Indonesian Association of Civil and Structural Engineering (HAKI), Indonesian Association of Geotechnical Engineering (HATTI), Indonesian Road Development Association (HPJI) and the Center for Disaster Mitigation and Technological Innovation (GAMA-InaTEK). The JCEF is devoted to research on civil engineering-related fields including geotechnics, transports, structures, hydraulics and water resources, environment, and construction management with particular emphasis on disaster risk reduction including a socio-engineering approach for the countermeasures. JCEF publishes three categories of paper, i.e. the articles, the journals (technical notes), and the editorials, between 6 - 12 pages per paper, 6 - 10 papers per issue, reviewed by selected peer-reviewers.

In Volume 8, Issue 1 (January 2022), the Journal of the Civil Engineering Forum (JCEF) embarked on a comprehensive modernization initiative. As part of this endeavor, the journal's website and system were migrated from its previous location, to a new platform, https://jurnal.ugm.ac.id/v3/jcef/. This transition aimed to enhance user experience and streamline operational efficiency for both readers and authors. Additionally, the JCEF adopted Open Journal Systems (OJS) version 3, further facilitating streamlined workflows. Furthermore, a strategic rebranding initiative was undertaken, encompassing a contemporary logo redesign and the implementation of a modern, LaTeX-based layout system. These enhancements aim to elevate the JCEF's online presence and solidify its role as a premier platform for advancing the fields of disaster risk reduction and sustainable infrastructure development.
