Abstract

The Bandulu and Tambang Ayam Village’s residents’ lack of awareness of waste management issues encourages the emergence of the 2023 Kuliah Kerja Nyata Pembelajaran Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (Community Services-Community Empowerment Learning) Universitas Gadjah Mada in Anyer team’s working program as a solution to the problem. Through the theme “Waste Free Villages,” various community empowerment programs are achieved, with roles in managing and reducing the volume of household waste and increasing the functionality of landfills in the area. The waste management program was designed through several steps, such as problem observation and identification, solution and program formulation, program implementation, and evaluation. Within the working program on waste management, the villagers were introduced to various organic and inorganic waste management methods, with an emphasis on changing and adding functional and economic values to household waste. Among the products produced through managing inorganic waste are bags, eco-brick, ryegyotaku, bookmarks, and hydroponic farming with a wick system. The organic waste management program also produced things like eco-enzymes, aromatherapy candles, organic pesticides, and maggot cultivation methods. The implemented program received a positive response due to its benefits in increasing the understanding of waste management and creating waste-based products with functional and economic values. In the future, this program is expected to reduce household waste debit and amplify the villagers’ understanding and effort to conserve the environment.
