The Importance of Village Regulations in Protecting Natural Resources and Environmental Management in Hargomulyo Village, Gedangsari Subdistrict, Gunungkidul Regency

Abstract

In the midst of the beauty of the rice paddy fields and rolling green mountains in Hargomulyo Village, Gedangsari District, Gunungkidul Regency, exists several issues regarding the environment in which the villagers live in such as the non-existence of a trash management system which leads to the burning of household trash. The arrangement of trees in the village of Hargomulyo village does not receive enough attention and results in trees falling and causing damage and losses for the villager. The conservation of natural resources in Hargomulyo village needs attention as long droughts causes by el nino highlights the need for adequate water conservation. This research will show the importance the use of village regulations in terms of arranging the environment and the conservation of natural resources in the village level. This research will adopt the normative-empirical method. The results of the research show that the level of legal awareness in the village community is still low and the community's behaviour and attitudes towards managing the environment and protecting natural resources are still relatively lacking. To help the people of Hargomulyo Village to be more aware of the existence of the law and more aware of the importance of environmental management and conservation of natural resources, the Student Community Service – Community Empowerment Learning Team (SCS-CEL UGM) is collaborating with the Hargomulyo District Government to help create a Hargomulyo Village draft regulations regarding environmental management of the Village and conservation of natural resources.
