The effect of hydrochloric acid solution and glycerol on the mechanical, hydrate properties and degradation rate of biofilm from ripe banana peels

Abstrak

Kulit pisang merupakan limbah biomassa yang belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal meskipun kandungan patinya tinggi. Selain itu, pati mempunyai potensi sebagai bahan baku pembuatan biofilm atau film yang dapat dimakan (edible film). Penelitian ini fokus pada pemanfaatan kandungan pati dari kulit pisang matang untuk membuat biofilm. Pati diekstraksi dari kulit pisang; kemudian dihidrolisis dengan variasi larutan asam klorida (HCl) 0,5 M (0, 2, 4 %-v/v Pati). Gliserol (pati 0, 20, 40%-b/b) digunakan sebagai bahan pemlastis. Diketahui bahwa formulasi larutan HCl 4%-v/v dan gliserol 20%-b/b menghasilkan kuat tarik biofilm yang paling tinggi yaitu sebesar 4,18 MPa. Namun persentase putus perpanjangan mencapai hasil terbaik pada 20,2% ketika formulasi larutan HCl 0%-v/v dan gliserol 40%-b/b diterapkan. Peningkatan larutan HCl dan gliserol terbukti meningkatkan kelarutan biofilm dalam air, dimana kelarutan sebesar 47,9% dicapai pada formulasi gliserol 40%-b/b dan larutan HCl 4%-v/v. Laju degradasi biofilm dalam tanah diukur menggunakan laju kinetik orde nol dan pertama. Urutan nol menghasilkan model terbaik dengan waktu paruh (t1/2) antara 73 hingga 108 hari.
