Abstract

Introduction. The use of institutional repositories is often limited to administrative archiving, even though they have great potential as strategic data sources for evidence-based academic policy. This research is important for mapping the intellectual landscape of the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) by analyzing of research trends in students' final assigments.

Research methods. Using a quantitative approach with a descriptive-comparative design, data were collected through automated metadata extraction of 3,380 undergraduate theses, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations in 2025 from digital repositories.

Data analysis. The data analysis used a Chi-Square (χ²) test to assess determine the significance of the relationship between education level and topic cluster, accompanied by keyword co-occurrence analysis.

Results. The Intellectual Mapping of Student Research at Surabaya State University shows a significant evolution of research, the S1 level dominates the practical implementation aspect, S2 focuses on product development (R&D) and digital innovation, while S3 concentrates on policy analysis of the Independent Curriculum.

Conclusion. There has been a shift in UNESA's research paradigm towards digital transformation and the evaluation of national policy. Longitudinal studies are recommended to verify the consistency over time.
