Abstract
Background: Chronic Kidney Disease has become a large
burden of public healthcare in many countries. Incidence and
prevalence of patients requiring hemodialysis has increased
continuosly and hemodialysis is also high cost. Since health
insurance takes a bigger role in financing health care, the
perspective of insurance and patient are needed to be
leaderstood.
Aim: The aims of this study were to describe cost of
hemodialysis covered by Askes and out of pocket, and to
identify factors related to hemodialysis costs.
Method: Cross sectional study was carried out. Subjects
were 51 Askes patients receiving hemodialysis treatment in
type B public hospital Bali Province. A quesionaire was used to
collect data. Descriptive statistic analysis was carried out to
describe the dependent and independentvariables, followed
by a linear regression to identify corelation among dependent
and independent variables.
Result: Average cost of hemodialysis in Askes patient was
Rp62.543.379,08 per person per year. Average costs of
hemodialysis covered by PT. Askes and out of pocket were
Rp56.501.237,90 and Rp6.042.141,18 respectively. Distances
from patient’s house to hospital was significant to predict 11,1%
of hemodialysis cost from out of pocket. Frequency of
hemodialysis was significant to predict 12,4% of hemodialysis
cost covered by Askes.
Conclusion: Distances from patient’s home to the hospital is
related to out of pocket cost, while frequency of hemodialysis
is related to hemodialysis cost covered by Askes.
