PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN PLATELET RICH PLASMA PADA BOVINE POROUS BONE MINERAL TERHADAP PENYEMBUHAN JARINGAN PERIODONTAL PADA TERAPI POKET INFRABONI

Abstract

Periodontitis is an inflammatory process involving the periodontal tissues caused by spesific microorganism characterized by pockets, alveolar bone loss and loss of attachment . Infrabony pocket therapy uses bovine porous
bone mineral (BPBM).  Bovine porous bone mineral (BPBM) is a xenograft prepared by protein extraction of bovine bone. Platelet - rich plasma( PRP ) is an autologous plasma centrigugated containing growth factors. This research was designed to evaluate the effect of  PRP as an adjunct into BPBM in the therapy of infrabony pocket which can be seen in clinical and radiographic parameters.
The study used 50 infrabony pockets and 34 alveolar bone destruction. They were divided into two groups, first group consisted of 22 infrabony pockets and 18 alvelolar bone destruction and treated by BPBM and PRP. The second group were treated by BPBM consisted of 28 infrabony pockets and 16 alveolar bone destruction. Clinical parameters were evaluated including changes of probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), bleeding on probing (BOP) and radiographic parameter were evaluated by alveolar bone height and density at the proximal identify by trabeculation based on Taguchi scale. There were significant differences in the decrease of PD, increase of CAL, increase of height alveolar bone and alveolar bone density between first group and the second group.There was no significant differences in BOP.
The addition of platelet rich plasma into bovine porous bone mineral provided better healing in the therapy of infrabony pocket than therapy without addition of PRP indicated by decrease of PD, increase of CAL, the height of alveolar bone and density of alveolar bone.
