Abstract
Malocclusion is the occlusion that deviate from the normal state . Orthodontic treatment aims to achieve
occlusion relationships and good function , and aesthetic improvement of facial dentofacial circumstances ,
and to produce a stable position of the teeth after treatment . Efforts are being made to reduce the degree of
subjectivity of assessment of a malocclusion can be assessed using an index of malocclusion that can be used
to assess the severity of malocclusion and the treatment success rate objectively . Malocclusion index is often
used namely PAR Index ( Peer Assessment Rating Index ) . Recent research has developed an index that is
easier to use ICON ( Index of Complexity , Outcome and Need ) . This study aims to determine the relationship
of the Peer Assessment Rating Index ( PAR ) and the Index of Complexity , Outcome and Need ( ICON ) in
determining orthodontic treatment success rate in treatment of Angle Class I malocclusion Begg technique .
The object of research is the study of 30 pairs of models before and after orthodontic treatment , Angle class
I malocclusion , orthodontic treatment with fi xed appliance Begg technique , the removal of four fi rst premolars ,
aged 18-30 years . Data obtained by calculating the total value of the model scores before and after treatment with
PAR and ICON index . The measurement results though statistically the Spearman Rank correlation analysis test
The results showed there is a strong positive relationship (r = 0,566) and signifi cant p=0,001 (p<0,05) between
PAR and ICON index in measuring the success rate of orthodontic treatment in Angle Class I Malocclusion with the Begg
technique, but can not replace the PAR index because
ICON dependence on the index is 25% smaller PAR obtained
from r2 = 0.25 multiplied by 100%.
