CRITICAL ISLAND STUDIES CONSORTIUM

The Critical Island Studies Consortium was established in 2019 through the collaboration of 12 universities in Asia, with Universitas Gadjah Mada being one of the co-founders. The consortium holds two meetings annually. The first half of the year is for the executive Board of Committee meeting, where Prof. Dr. Wening Udasmoro of Universitas Gadjah Mada is a member. The second half of the year is dedicated to hosting a major international conference, which has been held since 2019. In 2023, Universitas Gadjah Mada hosted the 2023 International Conference of Critical Island Studies with the theme "Islands and Commodities." This international conference featured 90 presenters and was attended by about 200 participants in a hybrid format. The conference significantly addressed critical social issues analyzed through literature, aligning closely with Poetika's scope. Poetika also served as a reference journal for publishing papers from this conference. Information about the consortium and conference can be accessed through this link.
