The wearing of traditional clothing and its style of clothing can indicate the people’s regional origin and even their mood. Currently, the practice of wearing traditional clothing plays an important role in constructing the Arabian Gulf’s cultural identity amid the influx of foreign workers into the region. The wearing of traditional clothing serves to strengthen national pride, preserve ancestral cultural heritage, and reinforce the Arabian Gulf’s cultural identity. This practice of wearing traditional clothing is also supported by mandatory rules regarding traditional attire during working hours and official events for government employees, as established by the governments of Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The practice of wearing traditional clothing also plays a role in preserving the cultural identity of the Arabian Gulf amid the tide of globalization and modernization, as well as distinguishing the Arabian Gulf’s cultural identity from other societies. Despite not producing coffee beans locally, Dubai has become a center of innovation in the specialty coffee sector. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through literature review and social media observation of several coffee shops in Dubai. The theoretical framework includes the concepts of Third Place and Third Wave Coffee. The findings indicate that the implementation of third place concepts in Dubai’s coffee shops is dynamic, although aspects of social neutrality still present challenges, particularly with the visible expression of cultural identity among Emirati patrons. Nevertheless, modern coffee shops remain inclusive social spaces and extend their third place function into the virtual realm through social media. Government support has also driven the growth of the coffee industry, positioning Dubai as a hub for specialty coffee that blends global innovation with local identity, making coffee shops a symbol of social transformation that still values tradition.
2025-07-31T16:31:26+07:00Copyright (c) 2025 Middle Eastern Culture & Religion Issueshttps://jurnal.ugm.ac.id/v3/MECRI/article/view/21015Makna Cinta dalam Puisi Nizar Qabbani dan Chairil Anwar: Kajian Sastra Bandingan2025-08-01T07:20:13+07:00Syamil Basyayifsyamibasyayev@gmail.comTatik Mariyatut Tasnimahtatik.tasnimah@uin-suka.ac.id
Nizar Qabbani and Chairil Anwar as modern poets of different nationalities, wrote many love poems. Although they write with the same theme, the views, conventions, or poetic traditions of Arab society and Indonesian society tend to be different. Based on that, this research aims to reveal the differences and similarities in the meaning of love in the poems “Yaumiyat Rajulin Mahzumin” and “`Ala `Ainaiki Yudabitu al-`Alam Sa`atihi” collected in the poetry anthology al-A`mal ash-Syi`riyah al-Kamilah by Nizar Qabbani, as well as the poems “Sajak Putih” and “Kabar dari Laut” collected in the poetry anthology Aku Ini Binatang Jalang by Chairil Anwar. This research uses the study of Thematic Parallelism in comparative literature that highlights the similarities and contrasts of themes, motifs, and main ideas between two or more works of poetry from different cultural contexts, periods, or languages. In interpreting the four poems above, the method used is Riffaterre's semiotics which consists of Heuristic reading and Hermeneutic reading. The results showed that there are similarities in the views of Nizar Qabbani and Chairil Anwar regarding the meaning of love, loyalty and sincerity, while the difference lies in Nizar Qabbani's pessimistic and Chairil Anwar's optimistic tendencies in viewing love.
2025-07-31T16:15:07+07:00Copyright (c) 2025 Middle Eastern Culture & Religion Issueshttps://jurnal.ugm.ac.id/v3/MECRI/article/view/20713Citra Diri Para Tokoh Pemerintah Dalam Cerpen Asy-Syarr Al-Ma’būd Karya Najib Machfuzh2025-08-04T16:00:53+07:00Shaniasofi Zarra Hanifazshaniasofi@student.uns.ac.idEva Farhahzshaniasofi@student.uns.ac.id
This study was conducted with the aim of examining the self-image of government figures contained in the text of the short story A'sy-Syarru al-Ma'bud by Najib Machfudz. The main focus of the research includes analyzing the influence of these policies on diplomatic cooperation, political stability, and regional security. Additionally, the study will identify the challenges and obstacles hindering the effectiveness of regional integration and propose strategies to enhance integration with a more inclusive and cooperative approach. To elaborate on the discussion, the author uses regionalism theory. The method used is descriptive-analytical. The study concludes that regional integration in the Middle East faces significant challenges, such as dependence on hydrocarbon exports, which limits the development of industry and the private sector in GCC countries. Economic disparities between wealthy countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar and poorer countries like Yemen are exacerbated by the migration of young professional workers to the GCC. In addition to economic issues, the region also faces insecurity in food, water, and energy. Internal conflicts, cultural identity differences, and political rivalries often hinder the effectiveness of regional cooperation. To achieve better integration, an approach that involves intergovernmental dialogue, inclusive strategies, and the active participation of civil society and the private sector is required.
2025-07-31T16:03:29+07:00Copyright (c) 2025 Middle Eastern Culture & Religion Issueshttps://jurnal.ugm.ac.id/v3/MECRI/article/view/18335At-Tafsīru al-‘Ilmiyyi fī Miṣra al-Ḥadīṡati2025-08-01T07:20:08+07:00Eid Abdulazizefethi@bayburt.edu.tr
This study investigates the characteristics of scientific interpretation (tafsir ʿilmī) of the Qur'an in modern Egypt during the twentieth century by analyzing the contributions of prominent Egyptian exegetes who sought to correlate the Qur'anic text with contemporary scientific discoveries. The novelty of the research lies in its qualitative analytical framework that integrates hermeneutical theory with exegetical discourse, filling a critical gap left by previous studies that addressed the phenomenon in broad or narrow regional terms. Employing a qualitative interpretive methodology, the research uses semi-structured interviews and content analysis to examine three prevailing positions: rejectionist, moderate, and expansionist attitudes toward scientific exegesis. The findings reveal significant conceptual diversity among scholars in interpreting scientific references in the Qur'an, reflecting broader implications for the notion of miracle (iʿjāz) and religious epistemology. The study makes a substantial theoretical contribution by proposing a reconstructed model of scientific tafsir that harmonizes textual integrity with modern knowledge, and it outlines practical applications for educational and religious contexts. Ultimately, this work enhances the Qur'an's relevance in addressing contemporary scientific and philosophical challenges, affirming its dynamic capacity for engagement beyond traditional interpretive paradigms.
2025-07-31T22:24:40+07:00Copyright (c) 2025 Middle Eastern Culture & Religion Issues
