The application of monascus pigments as natural dyes in textile dyeing is limited by low color intensity, poor washing fastness, and the need for repeated immersion. In addition, systematic optimization of dyeing parameters and the reusability of dye solutions have received limited attention. This study aims to systematically optimize the dyeing process of cotton fabric with anka extract (monascus pigments) using a single-immersion method, employing a Taguchi experimental design and multi-response signal-to-noise (MRSN) analysis. The effects of immersion time, mordant type, mordant concentration, sodium chloride concentration, and solution pH on color strength and fastness properties were evaluated. The results showed that immersion time, mordant type, mordant concentration, and pH significantly affected color strength, while sodium chloride concentration had a negligible effect. The optimal dyeing condition yielded a maximum color strength (K/S) of 2.43 at 120 minutes of immersion time, 25 g/L PAC, 20 g/L NaCl, and pH 10. The fastness results indicated good rubbing resistance but relatively low washing fastness. Furthermore, the dye solution demonstrated reusability with only a slight reduction in color intensity, indicating its potential to improve process efficiency and sustainability. This study provides a systematic, efficient optimization framework for monascus pigment-based dyeing and contributes to the development of a more practical, sustainable natural dyeing process.
