Pemikiran Pedagogi Kritis Henry Giroux

Abstract


Berbeda dengan mayoritas penelitian pendidikan sebelumnya yang berfokus di ranah tematik, artikel ini berusaha mengetengahkan kajian pemikiran ke permukaan. Pemikiran pedagogi kritis Henry Giroux akan menjadi pusat perhatian dalam studi kali ini. Secara ringkas, artikel ini mempunyai tiga tujuan utama. Pertama, menjelaskan latar belakang perkembangan teoretis pedagogi kritis Henry Giroux. Kedua, memperlihatkan kritik Henry Giroux terhadap pendidikan a la neoliberal. Ketiga, menampilkan alternatif serta visi pendidikan yang dipikirkan oleh Henry Giroux. Agar dapat mencapai tujuan tersebut, artikel ini menggunakan pendekatan hermeneutik kritis untuk menyingkap intisari manuskrip-manuskrip kuncinya. Bersamaan dengan itu maka metode yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka. Karya tulis Henry Giroux yang sesuai dengan pembahasan akan dibaca, ditampilkan, dan dianalisis secara mendalam. Dengan menggunakan piranti metode tersebut, penelitian ini berpendapat bahwa (a) pemikiran pedagogi kritis Giroux sangat dipengaruhi oleh kritiknya terhadap teori korespondensi dan reproduksi, (b) penolakan kerasnya kepada cara pandang sempit neoliberal yang merasuk ke dunia pendidikan membuatnya menawarkan visi baru bernama pendidikan sebagai ruang publik politik, dan (c) Giroux memperlakukan sekolah sebagai tempat produksi agensi demokratis yang mampu menciptakan tatanan normatif demokrasi radikal dan keadilan sosial.
