Abstract
On Class II malocclusion division 1 there is change in the composition of the teeth that can cause a variety of problems one of which is a problem pronouncing it necess‘ary orthodontic treatment. Fixed orthodontic treatment begins with the alignment stage is the stage for creating a dental arch parallel and aligned. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of fixed orthodontic treatment aligmnent stage in Class II division 1 to change the pronunciation of vowel, consonantand in the form of word.
The study was conducted on 10 children aged 11-14 with abnormalities of Class II malocclusion division 1 in pediatric dentistry clinic RSGMP FKG UGM. Sound recording is done in an enclosed space by using a tape recorder. Sound recording is
done when the subjects vowel (/ o /, / u /), bilabial consonant (/ p /, / b /, / m /), labiodental consonant(/ f /) and in the form of word are /p/ompa, /b/umi, /m/umi , /f/obi, /o/bi, /u/mbi. Recording performed before treatment and at the stage of alignment. Frequency values obtained by analyzing the results of sound recording using Cool Edit software. Data were tested by Independent t-test
The results showed that the frequency of vowel, consonant and said there were significant differences (p <0.05) between before treatment and at the alignment stageorthodontic treatment. Conclusion The results of research show the frequency change pronouncing the vowel / o /, / u /, bilabial consonant / p /, / b /, / m /, labiodental consonant /f /, and in the form of word are /p/ompa, /b/umi, /m/umi, /f/obi, /o/bi, /u/mbi become higher than before orthodontic treatment.
