Abstract

Impression technique is one of important factors in producing details in work model. Polyvinyl siloxane is mostly used addition type silicone impression material because of its good accuracy. Disinfection needs to be done to prevent cross-infection.
Two percent glutaraldehyde is one of chemical disinfectants which does not cause distortion on the impression surface. This research aims to evaluate the effects of disinfection technique using 2% glutaraldehyde and impression techniques with polyvinyl siloxane on dimensional accuracy of fixed denture dies. Twenty eight polyvinyl siloxane impressions were divided into four groups; one step and two step impression technique disinfected with immersion and spray. The specimens in 2% glutaraldehyde spray groups were treated for 10 minutes and the specimens in remaining groups were immersed in 2% glutaraldehyde for 10 minutes. The dies were made from type IV gypsum and measured in 3D laser scanner for dimensional accuracies on interabutment (occlusalocclusal) andintraabutment (occlusal-gingival, finishing line, mesio-distal servical, mesio-distal  occlusal) distances.
The data was analyzed with two-way Manova and Duncan post-hoc.
The results showed significant differences between master dies with one step immersion in all measurement points of  interabutment and intraabutment (p<0.05).
There were no significant differences between master dies with two step spray in all measurement points of interabutment and intraabutment (p>0.05). The conclusions are 2% glutaraldehyde spray and immersion methods affect dimensional accuracy of fixed denture dies produced from polyvinyl siloxane impression. The 2% glutaraldehyde spray method shows better dimensional accuracy than immersion method. Two-step impression  technique shows better dimensional accuracy of fixed denture dies than one-step impression technique with polyvinyl siloxane.
