Abstract
Background: Some researches which have been done in Indonesia show that Indonesia has some racial
elements that cause population variation. The strongest elements are Australomelanesoid and Mongoloid.
Australomelanesoid were the initial inhabitant in Indonesia who scattered from western to eastern Indonesia.
Thewave ofmigration fromAsiamainland broughtMongoloid population into Indonesia.TheMongoloidwere the
second racial element that latermixed and dominated theAustralomelanesoid.
Objective: The aimof this study is an attempt to identify themorphotype in Indonesia based on themeasurements
on the face and the head.
Material andMethod:We have taken 64 living population in Indonesia. Themeasurements were eu-eu, g-op,
n-gn, go-go, n-sn and al-al.We have used the approximationmethod afterWanke to analyze the indices.
Results and Conclusion: The present research has shown that there are three morphotypes in Indonesia.
These are Protomalayid (Australomelanesoid),Deuteromalayid (Mongoloid) andDayakid. Protomalayid dominated
eastern Indonesia.Deuteromalayid dominated almost thewhole Indonesia.Dayakid developed their characteristic
and dominated Kalimantan Island.
