Abstract

Background:Monosodiumglutamate (MSG) is used anywhere as food flavoring by publics. The study ofMSG
consumption still controversial among whether is a safe or a danger. The substance dangerous effect ofMSG
is decreasing the function the reproductive system organ. Leydig cell is a hormonal cell that is included in the
reproductive systemorgan and it can influence the degreemale fertility. This study is intended reveal howfar the
consumption ofMSGcan influence the structure of Leydig cells.
Method:The experimental design study is done onmale adult white rats (Rattus norvegicus). They are given
MSGorally during one spermatogenesis cycle. They are divided four groups: one group as a control and three
groups as the treatment which they were given orallyMSG of difference doses. The structure and number of
Leydig cells were observed and countedmicroscopicallywith hematoxillin eosin staining. Each of ratwas taken
the ten location of testicle interstitial tissue for obtaining data.At-test is used to analyze the differences.
Result: The results of study is showed that the cells nuclei diameter of Leydig cells of the treated rats showed
smaller than control, and if the dose of MSG is increased that the cell nuclei diameter become smaller too.
Statistical analysis of cells nuclei diameter difference among treatment and control presented that it is significance
(p<0,05), and also variance dose it is significance too (p<0,01).
Conclusion:Consumption ofMSGduring one spermatogenesis cycle of certain dose ormore can decrease
quality and quantity of the Leydig cells structure.
