Spirituality at workplace is a new topic in organizational psychology. Spirituality at workplace is related to a construction that indicates an increase of quality performance. The purpose of this study was to find the factors forming the spiritual climate in Indonesian organizational context. The subjects were 417 employees of a media company. The method used in this study was exploratory factor analysis. The results indicated that there were two factors forming the spiritual climate in the workplace, namely vision and mission that motivated the employees and made them connected with their purposes at work, and the second factor was employees’ deep concern of their lives. This study can be used as practical guidance to establish a healthy working climate in organization.

The study aimed to discover the combination of the variables of social relationships and means for self-fulfillment was effective for predicting students’ performance in mathematics. The subjects were 83 students of 11th grade of senior high school students in Yogyakarta. The variables were measured using the self-efficacy scale, teacher-student relationships scale, student attachment scale, parent support scale, school climate scale, and mathematics midterm exams. The data were analyzed using Stepwise regression analysis. The results indicated that out of the five independent variables, self-efficacy and teacher-student relationships were the most effective predictors. The contribution of both to mathematic performance amounted 13.3 percent, which was 6.3 percents higher if compared with self-efficacy only as single predictor. In addition, out of the five variables tested, it was the school climate did not have a significant effect on mathematic performance.

This study aimed to reduce depression and increase immunity through training of reading of the reflective intuitive Al-Fatihah. This research aimed to develop a model of literacy stimulation for preschool children in order to meet their needs and to overcome parents’ problems in stimulating literacy in their children at home. The data of children’s needs and parents’ problem were obtained from questionnaires and focus group discussion. The questionnaires were filled by 75 mothers whose children aged 3-5 years old in Surakarta. Then, 26 of them attended focused group discussion. The data obtained showed that there was a problem in these children’s early literacy development. Most of them were lack of interest in literacy activities and mostof the parents were unable to attract their children’s attention and interest. The problem faced by the parents was the lack of skill in selecting and doing literacy activities in accordance with their children’s needs. A multisensory model was designed to improve pre-school children’s interest in early development of literacy and to increase parents’ skill in stimulating their children’s interest.

This study aimed at identifying and understanding more deeply the self-regulated learning of students with a high GPA, who had multiple roles (as housewives and workers also). The approach employed in this study was the qualitative-phenomenological approach. The subjects of the study were selected by purposive sampling technique and the data were collected using techniques of observations and in-depth interviews. The results indicated that the four subjects conducted self-regulation in learning through regulating cognition, motivation, behavior, and emotion. Moreover, the subjects performed context regulation in order to achieve certain learning objectives. Self-regulated learning performed by the subjects was influenced by specific precipitating situations and the characteristics of each related individual. It was also strengthened by social support given to them.

This article is the first-phased report of a research through a testing of cognitive behavioral therapy module. The subjects involved in this research were 27 students who were experiencing mild to moderate depression. The research design was experiment with a pretest and posttest group. Instruments used in this study were Back Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), Automatic Thought Questionnaire (ATQ), Dysfunctional Attitude Scale (DAS). The data was analized using paired t-test. Based on qualitative analysis, the results showed that in general it was easy for the students to understand and do the module independently. This module was very helpful for them in managing thoughts and feelings and specifically in the automatic negative thoughts, dysfunctional thinking, and rules. Penskalaan Thurstone pada Aitem Thyroid Dysfunction Questionnaire (TDQ) Berbasis Gejala Biopsikososial

Thyroid function disorders can affect the biological, psychological and social conditions of the sufferer. This study aimed at developing a thyroid dysfunction questionnaire (TDQ) based on a biopsychosocial phenomenon, which is the impact of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. The development of this instrument began with identification of the measurement objectives, domains and items. The procedures of Thurstone Scaling were done with analysis of content validity using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI), which were formulated by three experts of thyroid and endocrinology. Every item in the TDQ was determined through median analysis based on the valuation results done by 44 internists from hospitals and 44 doctors from Puskesmas (Public Health Center) with 11 categories of response (1-11). The results of CVR analysis ranged from 0.33 to 1.00 and the value of CVI was 78%. It showed that the experts had adequate rate of homogeneity to judge the relevance of the 33 items in TDQ. The median analysis showed that the 33 items of TDQ had scores ranging from 4 to 10. Thus, it was expected that the TDQ scores on this interval scale would facilitate observer to make an interpretation of the examination of thyroid function of the subjects.

A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted to identify and describe the phenomenon of corruption psychology. Two corruptors were interviewed to explore their perceptions on corrupt practices in Central Java. The interview conducted to explore informant perceptions on a real process. Interview data collected resulted in five themes: (1) Corruption is an act of abuse the authority, identical with theft, something that not run correctly, and using public money for personal and group interest intentionally; (2) The motives of the informants in doing corruption are solidarity with the friends’ doer, system that enables to corrupt, to earn much more money, and make friends; (3) Process of corruption; budget-making has been done by legislative and executive institution; marking-up the budget, facilities and allowances; reporting the administrative data manipulatively; inter-relating chain in corruption process; and distributing the aspiration fund without a proof of receipts; (4) The impact of corruption is making someone’s wiser in life, putting the corruptors in to the jail, humiliating their big family, and also, having a more debt, and (5) The settlement of problems that they employ is by using emotion-focused coping.

This study aimed to prove the influence of training of playing pretense game in increasing mother’s interaction with her mentally-retarded child. There were eight mothers who have under-five-year children with mental retardation participating in the research. They were randomly chosen. The research design used pre-test and post-test control group. Four mothers belonged to the control group and the other four to the treatment group. The training of playing pretense game with children was conducted in four stages. The first and second stages were done in group while the third and fourth were individual. Mother and child interaction scale was used to measure the differences of the interaction before and after the training. The follow-up research was done thirteen days after the training. The results showed the pretense game played by a mother and her mentally-retarded child can make their interaction become more meaningful.

Dinamika Konsep Diri pada Remaja Perempuan Pembaca Teenlit

This study aimed to understand the dynamics of self-concept among teenage girls who read teenlit. The subjects of this study were three high school students who had actively read teenlit for at least two years. In addition, the data were obtained also from five informants who often interacted and could provide an overview about the subjects. This study used a qualitative method with phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interview on subjects and informants, observation during interview and use of teenlit as written document. The findings indicated that characters in teenlit influenced the girls’ self-concept through the mechanism of social comparison and modeling. By observing various characters found in the teenlits they read, they tended to pay attention to a teenlit’s characters that are superior to themselves. Therefore, such comparison led them to have negative self-concept. However, if they had made critical self-appraisal based on a motive of self-improvement while comparing themselves with the characters, they would have had positive self-concept. It can be concluded that a character that is considered better may become a model for the formation of an ideal self-concept. Through modeling, youth also form an actual self-concept of which is previously less aware.

The aim of the study was to formulate a theory about Javanese adolescent self-concept in relation with friends. The subjects of this research were three Javanese adolescents, two girls and one boy. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation and were analyzed with the so-called grounded theory approach. The results of this study indicated that Javanese adolescents interprets himself as plural selves, hierarchical interdependent and altered. Individuals have a lot of selves that represent their relationships with others. The selves are composed with each other in a hierarchical relationship. In a particular time, an individual activates one only of their selves. The self-activation process goes with the principle of "if ..., then ...". After recognizing their friends and situations, individuals will compare and evaluate themselves then choosing and activating one particular self to adjust with a particular friend and situation. When Javanese adolescents are with their friends, they do not think much about physical aspect, they become themselves and feel equal, accepted, understood and trusted as a good person. Such self-viewing makes an individual tend to go through positive feelings and comfort being around friends.

Model Motivasi Trisula: Sintesis Baru Teori Motivasi Berprestasi

The purpose of this study was to find out a comprehensive model of achievement motivation appropriate for Indonesian students. Specifically, this study examined the contribution of task-value, self-efficacy and goal orientation in influencing students’ achievement motivation. The subjects of this research were 393 high school students, 219 of them are female and 174 are male. 46% of them were senior high school and 54% junior, high school students. 45% were from public schools and 55% from religion-based private schools. The task-value, self-efficacy, goal orientation and achievement motivation as scaling instruments used in this study were developed from Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire Manual. The instruments had been tested and proved valid and reliable. Analysis of model testing data was done using technique of confirmatory factor analysis. The results showed that the trisula model of achievement motivation was reliable. The task-value, self-efficacy and goal orientation are significant loading factors for achievement motivation. The self-efficacy also is a significant loading factor for the task-value and goal orientation.

Analisis Faktor Hasil Penilaian Budi Pekerti

The purpose of this study was to describe the load factor of the assessment results on character education for high school students. The subjects were 545 second grade students. There were four instruments used, namely: cognitive aspect, affective aspect, behavioral aspect in the learning process and behavioral aspect outside the learning process. Each aspect contains nine indicators as factors. Data were analyzed with factor analysis technique and the models used were the Confirmatory Model of Principal Components Analysis with the varimak rotation method and Kaiser normalization. The results showed that each of these factors were statistically independent, not associated with other indicators. These findings reinforced the theories used in this study that character education loads indicators of dedication, conviction, honesty, discipline, tolerance, democracy, sense of belonging, gratitude and empathy. Statistically, each indicator obviously has four aspects of character. Therefore, assessment of manners that includes the aspects of cognitive, affective and behavior is a task that absolutely must be done.

Depression has strong relationship with diabetes mellitus and the aspect of psychology has influence toward the diabetes patient as control. This research aimed to find out the role of psychological factors in dealing with depression suffered by patient of DM-2 and to see the dynamics of both direct and indirect relationship of psychological factors toward the depression of DM-2 patient. The main model is a model that can bring effect of mediation between social support and depression caused by DM-2. Optimism can provide mediating effect of the relationship between social support and self-esteem. Resilience can provide mediating effect of the relationship between social support and self-esteem. Similarly, self-esteem acts as the mediator of the relationship between optimism and resilience toward the depression of DM-2 patient. The result of estimation parameter test showed the direct relationship between social support toward optimism (0.717), resilience (0.811), self-esteem (0.269) and depression (-0.210) and the direct role to depression (-0.397). The higher social support and self-esteem will cause the higher optimism and resilience. On the other hand, the role of self-esteem showed negative coefficient. On the other hand, the role of self-esteem to depression showed a negative coefficient is, the higher self-esteem will be followed by the decrease of depression in patient with DM-2.

Student well-being in the context of an elementary school in Indonesia has not been much studied. Accordingly, the effort of developing relevant indicators for revealing student well-being has not been done too. Along with the increase of public awareness of student well-being at school, appropriate tools to measure it is greatly needed. This study aimed to develop an instrument for measuring student well-being in elementary school. The scale was based on the review of research on children's well-being by Pollard and Lee and was adapted for school context using the psychological well-being approach suggested by RyffandKeyes. This study had three parallel scales, each of which was tested, on 200 respondents. Accordingly, the study involved 600respondents. The results of the analysis of the scales were used as basist for preparing a compilation scale. It was then tested on215respondents. The results of the analysis showed that 39items composed had satisfying psychometric properties, i.e. the reliability coefficient, item discrimination index, and content validity. However, the structural factor still needed to be improved.

This study had two objectives, the first was to find out the role of organizational commitment and employee engagement to readiness for change. Second was to find out the determinants of readiness for change based on aspects of organizational commitment (i.e., identification, involvement, and loyalty) and dimensions of employee engagement (i.e., organization, leadership, team member, job and individual). Self-administered questionnaires were used to measure the three variables. There were 206 plantation employees involved in this study. The result showed that organizational commitment and employee engagement contributed to employee readiness for change. This study also found two aspects of organizational commitment and two dimensions of employee engagement contributing to employee readiness for change. This study could be the guidelines for the policy makers in implementing policies of better human resources. Sebagian kecil mahasiswa fakultas kedokteran adalah mahasiswa dengan riwayat pernah mengikuti program akselerasi ditingkat pendidikan dasar dan menengah, dan kelompok ini disebut sebagai akseleran. Akseleran merupakan siswa berbakat dan memiliki inteligensi serta kemampuan akademik yang tinggi, namun, akseleran umumnya imatur baik sosial, emosional maupun fisik. Dengan demikian dapat diprediksi akan mengalami penurunan kompetensi ketika berada pada tahap rotasi klinik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melakukan evaluasi kinerja akseleran dalam pencapaian kompetensi di rotasi klinik. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian campuran, dengan pendekatan kualitatif lebih dominan. Responden penelitian ialah mahasiswa fakultas kedokteran di semester tujuh dan delapan dengan riwayat pernah mengikuti program akselerasi. Hasil penelitian ini mendapatkan bahwa kemampuan dasar akseleran berada pada skala baik dan baik sekali; sikap kerja cukup hingga baik, sedangkan kepribadian pada komponen stabilitas emosi serta daya tahan stres berada pada skala kurang hingga cukup. Nilai median kompetensi klinik akseleran sedikit lebih tinggi dibandingkan non-akseleran, tetapi secara satistik perbedaannya tidak bermakna. Kesimpulan penelitian adalah, kinerja akseleran dalam rotasi klinik cukup baik, namun akseleran menghadapi masalah non-akademik terutama aspek kepribadian yang dapat memengaruhi nilai akademik. Perlu pertimbangan seleksi calon mahasiswa kedokteran terhadap akseleran dengan menggunakan pemeriksaan psikologik untuk menilai kematangan kepribadian. This research aimed to know the effects of the methods of bibliotherapy and discussion on the moral dilemmas in enhancing responsible character. The subjects of the research were 65 students of “AN” divided into three groups; bibliotherapy experimental group, moral discussion experimental group, and non-treatment control group. The research used pretest-posttest-follow-up design. The data of this experimental research were obtained by using a scale of responsible character consisting of aspects of self-control skill, risk-taking for personal choice and seriousness of doing obligation to others. The data were then analyzed using the SPSS.19 software program. The analyzed factors indicated that there were five dimensions shaping students’ responsible character, namely carefulness, task-oriented, excellence, perseverance, and commitment. Based on the hypothesis test through a one-way ANOVA technique, it was concluded that the two methods have an effect on the enchancement of students’ responsible character.

Theoretically the adolescent psychological development is a transition period which is marked by changes in biological, psychological and social aspects. Empirically, the increasing trend of juvenile delinquency is caused by the inability of the early adolescents to be assertive so that their personality become weak and they can easily fall into negative things. This study aimed at determining the extent to which environment and mass media have the influence on assertive behaviour and juvenile delinquency trend in Junior High School in West Java Province. The respondents of this research were 458 students of Junior High Schools in West Java. Questionnaire was used to collect the data. Samples were chosen by using stratified random sampling technique. Data analysis employed Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with two-stages testing: measurement model and structural model, using Analysis of Moment Structure (AMOS). The results of this study revealed that all hypothetical statements have significant effects. The findings showed that the increasing level of students’ assertive behaviour can decrease the tendency of juvenile delinquency in them. The aim of this research was to design self-regulation training as an alternative effort to enhance students’ competitiveness. A total number of 147 students from two private vocational schools were involved as subjects. Pretest posttest control group design was used. In each school there were an experimental group, which got self-regulation training, and a control group, which got self-concept training. Conduct Disorder is one of the most common problems often found in children taken to Puskesmas. Based on SIKM (Mental Health Information System) from 2011 to May 2013, 46.3% of those taken to Puskesmas in Sleman and Yogyakarta were identified with behavioral and emotional disorder. Therefore, screening instrument is needed for early identifying conduct disorder in them. Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) has been developed to meet the need. The SDQ is a 25-item questionnare about the positive and negative atributes of children and adolescents (4-16 years old). This study aimed to adapt the English version of SDQ-Teacher Reports (TR) into Indonesian version and to examine psychometrical properties and clinical validation of the Indonesian version for screening conduct disorder. The subjects were 161 Elementary students from Sleman and Yogyakarta, boys and girls of 7-13 years old of age. The reliability coeficient using Alpha Cronbach was α=0,773, and the construct validity using Principal Axis Factoring (PAF) showed that SDQ-TR had six structural factors. Clinical validation using Receiver Operating Curve (ROC) revealed that the value of sensitivity were 0.67 with spesificity 0.68 (for the optimum cut-off point ≥5), and using Likelihood Ratio (LR) showed LR (+) was 2.09 and LR (-) was 0.49. Big Five Personality sebagai Prediktor Kreativitas dalam Meningkatkan Kinerja Angggota Dewan

This study aimed to analyze the influence of the Big Five Personality Factors, which consists of Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness to Experience, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness on the Creativity and its implications to the performance of City Council members of ‘S’ city within the period of 2009-2014. A total number of 36 legistators who were still active became the subjects of the research. Linear Regression Analysis of the two phases was used to analyze the collected data with SPSS 19. The results showed that for Extraversion, t valued 2,340 with sig. 0.026, for Agreeableness, t valued 2.760 with sig. 0,010 and for Conscientiousness, t valued 2,241 with sig. 0,033. Thus, all the three factors had significant and positive effect on creativity. In the two-stage regression test, the value of t was 2.431 with a sig. 0,020. In general, the Big Five Personality traits have made positive and significant effect on the creativity and performance of City Council members of the ‘S’ city.

Multilevel helping (MLH) yang bertujuan untuk mengelola permasalahan-permasalahan psikososial dalam komunitas belum pernah dikaji secara empiris walaupun telah digunakan secara substansial pasca bencana alam. Dalam studi ini, MLH diubah menjadi Multilevel Facilitating (MLF) karena metode ini akan digunakan dalam kondisi normal. Istilah fasilitasi sendiri memiliki konotasi: pemberdayaan antar anggota dalam kelompok. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendukung bukti bahwa MLF efektif untuk ditransfer kepada komunitas dalam memecahkan masalah psikososial. Tiga kelompok komunitas berpartisipasi dalam studi ini. Kelompok pertama adalah kader wanita dalam lembaga masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas hidup masyarakat di daerah. Kelompok kedua adalah anggota Puskesmas yang aktif dalam “dusun siaga” bagi wanita hamil. Kelompok ketiga adalah polisi yang mengajarkan bawahannya untuk memfasilitasi keterampilan empatik dalam pelayanannya kepada masyarakat. Desain penelitian yang digunakan dalam studi ini adalah eksperimen quasi, sedangkan pengukuran dilakukan pra dan pasca perlakuan tanpa adanya kelompok kontrol. Data observasi selama proses transfer disajikan dalam bentuk grafik serial waktu. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa MLF efektif untuk digunakan oleh semua kelompok, utamanya bagi peserta yang berkomitmen untuk mengembangkan diri menggunakan metode yang pernah dipelajari selama lokakarya/pelatihan di masing-masing kelompok. Berdasarkan observasi, keterampilan dalam menggunakan MLF berkembang dalam semua kelompok selama proses transfer metode. Studi ini merekomendasikan kepada ketiga kelompok yang memiliki keterampilan dalam MLF agar tetap menggunakan dan mentransfer metode kepada kelompok berikutnya sehingga efek multiplikasi akan menjadi besar.

Representasi Sosial tentang Disabilitas Intelektual pada Kelompok Teman Sebaya

The purpose of this study was to examine the social representations of intellectual disability among children of 7 and 11 years old. The qualitative differences on social representations among children from villages of high- and low-prevalence of intellectual disabilities were examined. The study utilized a modified focused-group discussion with children in which participants responded to a set of vignettes depicting hypothetical situations normally confronted by children with intellectual disability. The results of analysis indicated that the peer groups hold beliefs with regards to intellectual disability as a form of mental or behavioral disorder. They showed understanding that children with intellectual disability are capable of demonstrating well-functioned intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. Nevertheless, respondents reflected their beliefs that intellectually disabled children are restricted in terms of linguistic and bodily/kinesthetic intelligence. Differences
between children from the low and high prevalence areas of intellectual disability were identified, in which the latter showed more refined understanding of intellectual disability. Direct interaction and socialization from the parents are the likely sources for the observed differences.

From Acute Pain to Intense Elation: The Psychological Dynamics of Five Individuals Who Experienced Spirit Possession

Kesurupan merupakan fenomena yang terjadi di berbagai kebudayaan di dunia, namun relatif jarang diteliti. Belum ada konsensus tentang etiologi kesurupan. Tokoh-tokoh psikodinamika menyebutnya ‘histeria’; para pendukung teori disosiatif menyebutnya proses disosiatif; para pakar
antropologi menyebutnya fenomena yang dibentuk budaya. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti mengajukan gagasan bahwa kesurupan dapat diklasifikasikan menjadi empat kategori yang
berbeda, yakni kesurupan patologis, kesurupan relijius, kesurupan kuratif, dan kesurupan hiburan.
Penulis menggunakan pendekatan studi kasus untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman dan dinamika
psikologis lima individu yang mengalami kesurupan. Penulis menggunakan tes proyektif (BAUM, DAP, HTP) untuk menunjang eksplorasi dinamika psikologis kelima partisipan. Data penelitian dan hasil kajian literatur menunjukkan bahwa kesurupan patologis, relijius, kuratif, dan hiburan merupakan jenis kesurupan yang berbeda. Partisipan yang mengalami kesurupan patologis melaporkan rasa sakit psikologis yang akut saat kesurupan. Eksplorasi riwayat keluarga menunjukkan tipe chaotic-disengaged. Partisipan yang mengalami kesurupan relijius (dikuasai Roh Kudus) melaporkan ekstase spiritual, yang dicirikan oleh sukacita yang sangat intens. Partisipan yang mengalami kesurupan hiburan melaporkan episode kesurupan yang dipicu oleh musik dan ritual, yang penyebabnya diatribusikan ke makhluk supernatural. Secara umum, hasil penelitian mendukung perspektif bahwa kesurupan adalah mekanisme untuk mengekspresikan kebutuhan dan hasrat psikologis yang terpendam dan tidak terpenuhi dalam kehidupan nyata. Penjelasan berdasarkan perspektif tunggal—misalnya hanya menggunakan perspektif fisiologis atau satu perspektif teoretik—akan menimbulkan “materialisme medis”, yang dikhawatirkan William James. Hasil penelitian ini mendukung suatu perspektif yang holistik, yang menyatakan bahwa kesurupan merupakan interaksi dinamis antara kebutuhan psikologis yang terpendam, frustrasi, hasrat, dan representasi keyakinan sosioreligiuspara partisipan.

Religiusitas, Koping Religius, dan Kesejahteraan Subjektif

The purpose of this research was to study the variables of religiosity, positive religious coping and negative religious coping as predictors of student’s subjective well-being. The subjects of this research were 166 college students. Their subjective well-being was measured by using the SWB-SLS Scale (Positive Affect, Negative Affect and Life Satisfaction at Campus) and the SWB-PLS (Positive Affect, Negative Affect and Personal Life Satisfaction). Religiosity Scale and Religious Coping Scale were used respectively to measure the religiosity and the positive and negative religious coping. Based on the parametric-statistic analysis with Pearson’s product-moment correlation indicated that there is a positive relationship between positive religious coping and student’s subjective well-being and a negative relationship between negative religious coping and student’s subjective well-being. However, it was not found that religiosity has relationship with student’s subjective well-being. Based on the multiple regression analysis, this research showed that the three variables can simultaneously become the predictors of student’s subjective well-being. The effective contribution of positive and negative religious coping is more significant than that of religiosity to student’s subjective well-being.

Berpikir Positif untuk Menurunkan Stres Psikologis

The purpose of this research was to test the effectiveness of training on positive thinking for reducing student’s stress level. The proposed hypothesis was that “Positive thinking training is effective for reducing students’ stress level”. The subjects of the research were 48 students from the Faculty of “P” of “K” University in Yogyakarta. They were divided into two groups, namely experimental group and control group. Each group consisted of 24 students. The experimental design used in the research was the pretest-posttest control group design. Herewith, the experimental group received treatment in the form of training on positive thinking. The students’ stress level scale (SSLS) was used to reveal whether they experienced stress disorder or not. After receiving the positive thinking training, it revealed that the stress level of the experimental group decreased compared with that of the control group (waiting list) that did not receive the training. The T-test done by analyzing the gained score differences between experimental group and control group indicated that the positive thinking training is effective for reducing students’ stress level. It was shown that the result of t count of gained score data (the increasing of positive thinking) amounts 8.232 with p=0.001 and of the reducing of positive thinking amounts -8.148 with p=0.001.

There is a hypothesis that emotional competencies have indirect effects to the academic achievement through school engagement and a higher Academic success requires higher emotional competencies and school engagement. This study aimed to test the hypothesis. It utilized subjects consisting of 417 excellent students. Psychological scale (emotional competence scale), Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM) intelligence test and documen-tations were used for collecting the data. A Structural equation modeling of AMOS 6.0 was applied to analyze the data. The important result of this study supported the hypothesis and affirmed that emotional competence indirectly affects the academic achievement through the school engagement. Based on the result of this research, it was suggested that the efforts and interventions have to include the aspects of emotional competence and school engagement as integral parts of educational program in the school.

Orientasi Tujuan, Atribusi Penyebab, dan Belajar Berdasar Regulasi Diri

The aims of this research were: (1) to test the difference of self regulated learning based on goal orientation of senior high school students in Yogyakarta, (2) to test difference of self regulated learning based on causal attribution of senior high school students in Yogyakarta, (3) to test difference of self regulated learning based on interaction between goal orientation and causal attribution of high school students in Yogyakarta. Participants were 488 Grade XI students of SMA Negeri ”A” Bantul, SMA Negeri “B” Bantul, SMA Negeri “C” Sanden, and SMA Negeri “D” Bambanglipuro. Data were collected using self regulated learning scale, mastery goal orientation scale, performance goal orientation scale, causal attribution scale of success, and causal attribution scale of failure. The data were analyzed using the technique of analysis of variance. The results suggest that: (1) there is significant difference of self regulated learning based on goal orientation (F=36.814 p=0.000), (2) there is significant difference of self regulated learning based on causal attribution of success (F=31.081 p=0.000), (3) there is significant difference of self regulated learning based on causal attribution of failure (F=21.837 p=0.000), 4) there is significant difference of self regulated learning based on interaction between goal orientation and causal attribution of success (F=2.983 p=0.031), and 5) there is no significant difference of self regulated learning based on interaction between goal orientation and causal attribution of failure (F=2.444 p=0.063)

Metode Stimulasi dan Perkembangan Emosi Anak Usia Dini

Emotion is an important factor for early child life. Children use their emotion to be able to be survive. One of the factors in early child emotion development is teacher. The technique to stimulate depends on the teacher understanding to the child development and the stimulation it self. This research was aimed to investigate how extent the teacher understanding was implemented in the stimulation technique for early children emotional development. The participants were 30 kindergarten teachers. Data was collected using interview and opened questionary. Data was analyzed through qualitative approach. The result shows that teacher understands the children emotional development, but the stimulation way is based on the manner set and teacher perception.

Deprivasi Relatif dan Prasangka Antar Kelompok

The study aimed to measure the influence of relative deprivation toward intergroup prejudice within undergraduate students in the Faculty “X” at Universitas Gadjah Mada. The relative deprivation theory predicted that when a person or a group is believed to be having limitation/weakness in comparison to the other people/groups, psychological problems and negative behaviors will be likely to occur. Pettigrew (2008) stated that the relative deprivation experienced by a group is strongly related to the occurrence of intergroup prejudice. This study was conducted by using a quasi-experimental method with pre test – post test control group design. A total of 20 undergraduate students participated in this study, which were grouped into two experimental groups (one group with narrative intervention and one group with narrative and provocation intervention) and one control group, after being selected through a proportional random sampling. Data were collected by using two scales, i.e. relative deprivation scale and intergroup prejudice scale. A one-way ANOVA analysis was used to see the difference between pre- and post-test scores across the three groups. Result of the study showed that relative deprivation did not influence the occurrence of intergroup prejudice.

Abilitas Komposit dalam Tes Potensi

When a unidimensionality assumption has been actually violated, interpretation of test scores might be jeopardized. It couldn’t be overemphasized in case of high-stake exams such as PAPs UGM (academic potentiality test for UGM graduate student candidates) which was supposed to reflect a composite ability. This study aimed at revealing item characteristics of PAPs A-1 Series based on UIRT and MIRT and discovering dimensionality of the three subtests of the test. Scores of subject (n=2035) on the 3 subtests were analysed and the results showed that 27 items (10 of Verbal, 8 of Kuantitatif, and 9 of Penalaran) were flagged for having rbis of less than 0.25 and 6 other items for having abnormally high pseudo-guessing parameters. Dimensionality analyses found out that Penalaran subtest was local-dependent while Verbal and Kuantitatif subtests both were local-independent. In addition, MIRT analyses failed to fully describe item characteristics of the test due to effect of interaction among probabilities of correct response of the three subtests.

The main goal of this study was to describe the psychological characteristics of the athletes of archery, tae kwon do, Pencak Silat, football, athletics, volley ball, and sepaktakraw in the Center for Students Education and Training (CSET). The data were collected from 104 male and female athletes. The study showed that among the groups of athletes of different sports had different psychological characteristics. Footballers had the best motivation, self-confidence, and mental preparation. Athletes of tae kwon do had the best control of anxiety and concentration, but the lowest motivation. Volleyball athletes had the highest team concern, but the lowest concentration, self-confidence, and mental preparation, compared to those from the other sports. The athletes of athletics had the lowest team concern, and the athletes of pencak silat had the lowest control of anxiety compared to athletes from the other sports.

This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of coping technique in reducing working stress. The reduced level of stress was expected to make more optimal performance. Subject consisted of 20 correctional officers, which were divided into two groups. 10 officers were in experimental group, which were trained with coping technique, and the other ten belonged to control group. The research used quasi-experimental design with control group that was untreated at pretest-posttest. Working stress was measured with a scale in which each subject in both groups filled the work stress scale before and after treatment. Data analysis using the Mann Whitney U- test indicated that there was a significant effect of the application of coping technique as an alternative solution to reduce the level of working stress of the correctional officers (U=20.00; p=0.023

Due to the large number of people with mental illness in Indonesia, traditional treatment to individuals with mental disorder becomes less effective. Community-based mental health treatment becomes a more effective and efficient choice in handling the disorder. Desa Siaga Sehat Jiwa (DSSJ, Mental Health Awareness Village) has comes as a form of community-based mental health treatment. One of villages in Yogyakarta where the program has been being implemented is in Selomartani village, Kalasan Sub-district, Sleman Regency. This study aimed to look at the process of formation, implementation and obstacles of the program in this village, and to provide advice or suggestions for its improvement. This study used a qualitative approach with narrative method. Data were retrieved through interviews and focus group discussions. Participants involved in the study were 19 cadres of the program. Results obtained from the study indicated that cadres have ability in understanding clearly the system and their roles in the program and they know the consequences of being a cadre of DSSJ. The new finding obtained during the research process was the emergence of "compassion fatigue” or “secondary traumatic stress", a traumatic disorder suffered by the cadre while handling patients.

Many infections such as dengue fever, diarrhea, respiratory infections and worms are caused by poor sanitation and careless behaviors. Prior to making behavioral change, there must be cognitive element to develop knowledge in people. This study used Snakes and Ladders game that was modified to contain health information. The goal of this study was to see the effectiveness of using the game in learning. The subjects of this study were 60 students of VI grade of elementary school in Gianyar, Bali. The first group was given health lecture, while the other group was given the Snakes and Ladders game to play at school break time. Mengurangi Bullying melalui Program Pelatihan “Guru Peduli”

This study investigated a strategy of reducing bullying in elementary school through “Guru Peduli” (“Teacher Care”) training. It was a training done for teachers. It aimed to increase teachers’ awareness, knowledge and skills to prevent and reduce bullying. The aim of this quasi-experimental research was to test the effectiveness of “Guru Peduli” training for reducing elementary school bullying. Two elementary schools were involved as the experimental and control groups. There were six classes were for class observation and six locations for playground observation. The observations were done before and after the training. The data were analyzed with Wilcoxon Signed-Rank and Mann-Whitney test. The data showed that there was a significant difference of bullying between the experimental and control schools. There was also a significant reduction of bullying in experimental school after the training.

Gambaran Perbedaan Nilai-Nilai Kerja antara Dokter dan Perawat di Rumah Sakit

Interprofessional collaboration becomes an important issue in implementing patient safety program. With their respective expertise in the collaboration, physicians and nurses play significant roles. However, work values are less reviewed in the context of interprofessional collaboration. This study aimed to describe the differences of work values between the physicians and nurses. The hypothesis of this study was that there are differences between work values of physicians and those of nurses. Data were collected through questionnaires given to 27 physicians and 80 nurses. Using independent sample T-test were found six differences of work values between physicians and nurses, i.e. self-direction, hedonism, universality, benevolence, conformity and security. The implications of the work value differences will be discussed further.

The data were collected through observation, interview and document analysis. The study found that organizational identity can be useful as business strategy to gain market positioning. This research also emphasized a model of identity development that can be used as business strategy.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of personal and situational factors of agricultural extension officers on their performances. The hypothesis assumed that personal factor and situational factor affect the performance of agricultural extension officers. The subjects of this research were 130 agricultural extension officers who were civil servants of Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. To assess the objectivity of these officers’ performances, the research also involved as samples two farmers whom every officer targeted for the extension. Therefore, totally there were 260 farmers participating in the research. The research used a quantitative method with qualitative description. The results of analysis showed that personal factor provided a significant influence on the performances of the officers of agricultural extension as much as 25% at the significance level of α=5%, and the situational factor directly influenced the personal factor as much as 29% at the significance level of α=1%.

Harga diri diidentifikasikan sebagai parameter psikologi penting bagi perkembangan remaja. Sejumlah penelitian mendapatkan hasil-hasil yang tidak konsisten terhadap perkembangan harga diri remaja.. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempertajam titik-titik temu dari penelitian-peneli¬tian sebelumnya terhadap kelekatan remaja kepada ibu, ayah, dan teman sebaya dengan struktur keluarga sebagai variabel moderator dan hubungannya dengan harga diri. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa-siswi kelas XI dan XII SMKN “X” dan SMKN “Y” di Yogyakarta. Tiga puluh tujuh subjek dari keluarga utuh dan 41 subjek dari keluarga dengan orangtua tunggal sebagai akibat perceraian atau perpisahan. Regresi ganda berjenjang dan Moderating Regression Analysis digunakan dalam menganalisa hubungan antara kelekatan dengan harga diri dengan mempertimbangkan struktur keluarga sebagai variabel moderator.Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa kelekatan kepada ibu, ayah, dan teman sebaya secara signifikan memprediksi harga diri. Temuan dari penelitian ini menun¬juk¬kan bahwa kelekatan kepada ayah dan teman sebaya menjadi prediktor yang lebih kuat dibanding dengan kelekatan kepada ibu terhadap harga diri remaja. Analisis lebih lanjut menun¬juk¬kan bahwa struktur keluarga tidak mempengaruhi hubungan antara kelekatan kepada ibu dan ayah dengan harga diri. Hasil dari analisis tambahan dengan metode independent-sample t test menunjukkan hasil yang sama. Struktur keluarga tidak memengaruhi harga diri, demikian juga dengan gender. Sementara itu, hanya kelekatan kepada ayah yang berbeda secara signifikan antar kelompok subjek dari keluarga utuh dan tidak utuh. Kelekatan kepada ibu hanya sedikit berbeda antar kelompok subjek perempuan dan laki-laki. Kelompok subjek perempuan memiliki tingkat kelekatan kepada ibu yang sedikit lebih tinggi daripada kelompok subjek laki-laki.

Motivasi Berprestasi sebagai Mediator Kepuasan Kerja

The objective of this study is to examine the influence of work culture and religiosity on job satisfaction through achievement motivation as mediator variable. The subject of this study was 220 civil government lecturers State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta that spread across 11 faculties by using method of proportional random sampling.Through survey method, this study distributed questionnaires that using aitems response model based on Likert scales, they are job satisfaction scale which consists 14 aitems, achievement motivation scale which consists 14 aitems, work culture which consists 12 aitems, and religiosity scale which consists 14 aitems. Confirmatory factor analysis had been applied to measure validity of the scales, while to test the model used path analysis. This study found that work culture and religiosity have significant positive influence on job satisfaction through achievement motivation. T-value of the influence of achievement motivation on job satisfaction is 4.51 > 1.96 (9% of contribution), work culture on achievement motivation is 3.14 > 1.96 (11.9% of contribution), and religiosity on achievement motivation is 6.25 > 1.96 (15.4% of contribution).This study concluded that a theoretical model of the influences of work culture and religiosity on job satisfaction through achievement motivation among lecturers State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is fit; additionally there is a significant and positive relationship between work culture and religiosity through achievement motivation among lecturers State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The study implicates the increment of achievement motivation, work culture and religiosity among lecturers State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta will be followed by increment of job satisfaction.

Jogjakarta is an specific government area consists of one municipality led by a mayor, and 4 regencies, each led by a regent. Data of high potential employees in documentary owned by the head of Regional Employment Body in Jogjakarta Government area. The sum of four heads, and a secretary of Regional Employement Body, were interviewed to reveal the information. The result of this study showed only 5.91% of the high potential employees underwent managerial derailment, far below another research study, indicated the number of 25%. There are two factors influencing managerial derailment, first, internal factor, and second external factor of the employee.

Agama dalam Perjalanan Gangguan Mental Psikotik dalam Konteks Budaya Jawa

The inter relationship between religion and mental illness is very complex. Religion can be an effective therapy but it can also be the trigger of mental illness. This study aims at exploring religious and spiritual issues among psychotic patients. This study employs a qualitative case study method. The subjects were 7 patients who suffered from a first episode psychotic disorders. They were recruited based on the diagnosis provided by two mental hospitals in Yogyakarta. Data were collected through interviews and observations, either directly to the subject or to the family caregivers. Several themes in this study showed that religion had a role in triggrering psychotic disorder through internal moral conflict and external conflict between particular religious groups and traditions. Some religious issues were also present in the symptoms of psychotic disorder particularly in the content of delusion and hallucination. Meanwhile, religious coping played an important role in the process of recovery. Participants understood that their illness was their destiny (takdir) which had to be accepted (nrimo). Acceptance of participants’ destiny did not associate with fatalistic attitude. On the contrary, their understanding that the illness was from God meant that it could be cured. This understanding provided a light of hope which ignited their effort (usaha) to solve their problem.

Many literatures in the field of public health psychology concerned to involve third phenomenon when explain the relationship of two phenomenon. The third phenomenon then formulated as a mediator or moderator variables. Both of these variables are not much utilized by researchers in Indonesia. One of the possibility cause an under utilization of mediator and moderator variables was a technical problem, such as analysis procedures. This paper explains an analysis procedure using a mediator and moderator variables. Terminology and research example using of both variables are introduced then followed by an analysis illustration on empirical data. The demonstration of the procedure in this paper is expected to be as a a guidance for researcher when develop research design and manage data analysis.

Adaptasi Bahasa dan Budaya dari Skala Kepribadian Big Five

The use of Big Five Personality taxonomy in research about personality day by day keeps increasing. In Indonesia, the Big Five personality Inventory (BFI) is utilized to predict consump¬tive behaviors, entrepreneurship interest, consumers’ satisfaction and organizational commitment. The inventory used in such research is varied with names of both Big Five and Five Factor Model, consisting of 44 aitems, 50 aitems, 100 aitems, or even 300 aitems. This research aims to adapt linguistically and culturally the aitems of BFI of Oliver John’s 44 aitems version.Two steps of research will be reported in this article, namely Adaptation of BFI into Indonesian and Testing of Indonesian version of BFI. The subjects of this research are 961 people with diverse range of age, education and place of origin. The results of the step 1 are presented in the form of a description of language and cultural adaptation processes. The validity of every dimension of BFI will be calculated by correlating the score of each aitem with the total score, whereas the reliability is achieved through conducting Alpha Cronbach test. A factor analysis of the data obtained is also done to find out the amount of the Indonesian-version BFI factors.

Pengalaman Emosi dan Mekanisme Koping Lansia yang Mengalami Penyakit Kronis

The process of aging is a natural process faced by humans. They may experience health problems when it gets old, it is contributing to their emotional suffering. This study aims to answer the question of how the experience of seniors during chronic disease, what is the meaning of old age and disease for the elderly, how the dynamics of the elderly in the face of chronic illness , and what are the factors that influence the experience of emotions and coping mechanisms elderly who have chronic diseases. The study was conducted with a qualitative phenomenological approach, involving 6 subjects as key informants , and 6 family members and community leaders as one additional informant. The data was collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation. Subject selection is determined by reference to key person who know the condition of the subject to the criteria of age 60 years or older , had more chronic disease than a year, can provide information through interviews. Results showed that the elderly experience while facing chronic illness can be identified through the important themes that are synthesized in the form of the internal dimensions of the disease view of the subject , the denial of the disease, the emergence of the thoughts that accompany illness, the emergence of a variety of emotional experience, surrender to face pain, and actions undertaken in overcoming the disease, and the external dimension of support or attention of the family. Old age is interpreted as the age of the subjects was nearing death, a lot of pain, and the patient should be approached religion, and should be able to accept the situation. Disease is defined as fairness occurs in old age, as a rebuke of God, as a trial, as a reward, as a disaster, as well as the will of God. Thoughts that accompany the disease appears to make the subject was not ready to accept the disease in old age. Old age is the age of the end of life and disease is the cause of a person's death. Factors that influence the experience of emotions and coping mechanisms include lack of knowledge about the subject of illness, type of illness and prior illness experiences, desires and thoughts experienced by subjects when sick, and the presence or absence of support or care from family for sick.

Perbedaan Waktu Pemberian Jawaban dan Hasil Tes Inteligensi Ditinjau dari Perbedaan Lembar Jawaban

Many intelligence test administered designed as paper and pencil test. But efficiency demand in this time make it administered using computer answer sheet, and testie forced to give answer by blackening answer dots using 2B computer pencil in answer sheet. This method reduce testie time to think the right answer, and may influence intelligence test result. This study aimed to compare time to fill answer sheet and intelligence test results, between testie who did test with paper and pencil answer sheet and testie who did test with computer answer sheet. Experiment method choseed in this study. Simple design with repeated sample used in first experiment step. Prior, subjects were assigned to fill answer sheet by streak. And then they assigned to give answer by blackening answer dots. Data analysis show that there were significant difference between first and second assignment (F = 192.192, p < 0.05). Two independent group design used in the second experiment step. Subjects were randomly assigned to join control group or experiment group. Subjects in control group did test using paper and pencil answer sheet, while subjects in experiment group did test using computer answer sheet. Data analysis show that there were significant difference in intelligence level between control group and experiment group in CFIT A (t = 1.681, p < 0.05; one tailed), CFIT B (t = 2.289, p < 0.05; one tailed), and CFIT A and B (t = 1.819, p < 0.05; one tailed). Control group consistently higher in intelligence test results than experiment group.

Perilaku Bullying pada Mahasiswa Berasrama

Students’ bullying characteristics phenomena has become a concern because educational institution where educative individuals are being train has in fact become a place of bullying. Bullying is an act of hurting someone done by an individual or group. Bullying is not limited to a community or educational institutional, such as a university, as a whole, but it happened in a narrower area that is related to a campus – dormitory. Dormitory, a place conducive for learning is a social laboratory, with an educative, social, moral and regeneration function. Based on the statistical data of bullying cases of university A, released by the office of the student affairs in 2008, it was found out that there are 1 or 2 cases every semester. Bullies usually consist of 1 to 8 students.To know the types of bullying, factors and affects that causes the act on the victims and dormitory community, and efforts of prevention. A qualitative research was done to dig deep into the real picture of bullying. An interview and discussions were done toward 14 reseach subject. Sources and methodology triangular were done to validate the data. Data analysis was done using the open coding steps. Bullying causes factors in university A is the same in general that is seniority factor, imitating the past experiences. Seniors expect themselves to be honored and problem occurred when juniors dishonored them. Bullies bullied because they were once victims, therefore bullying is somehow done as an act of revenge. Bullying acts occurred in dormitory of university A in Bandung. Anti-bullying systems designed by the university are: Religious understanding development, religious teaching implementation, uplifting moral values. Others things done are improving students’ controlling system by the dormitory deans and monitors (dormitory workers).

This study was purposed to differencences angry (experience angry and expression anger) on attachment style (secure, with drawl, and anxious). The hypothesis was that there were differences angry scores (experience angry and expression angry) on attachment styles (secure withdrawal, and anxious). Subject with secure attachment was angry score higher than subject with withdrawal and anxious attachment style.
There was 100 subjects participation in this study. There were two scales, which are attachment style scale and State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXY).
The result is that there is differences experience and expression anger between three attachment styles. Subject with secure attachment style have experiences angry (trait anger & state anger) and expressions anger (anger-in, anger-out) lower than subjects with the others; and mean score anger control subject’s is higher than the others.

The aims of this study was to find out the correlation between jobinvolvement and health and safety at work disciplinary. The subject of the research were 97 employees of PT. Mandira Nusantara Bogor. The hypothesis stated that the higher the job involvement, the higher the health and safety at work disciplinary. The result shows that the hypothesis is consistent with the study by using product-moment correlation analysis, with r = .741 and p < .05. The Job-involvement account for 57.7% of the variability of health and safety at work disciplinary.

The research was intended to find the affect of the leadership style on work-enthusiasm. Hypothesis was stated that employees who have relationorientation leader would increase their work-enthusiasm.
The subject of the research was 100 employees. Data were obtained by Leadership style Scale and Work-enthusiasm scale. The result shows that there is no significant difference on the work enthusiasm between the relationorientation leader and task-orientation leader. The hypothesis is inconsistent with the study result.

GUESSING: INSTRUCTED OR DISCOURAGED PENALIZED OR UNPENALIZED?

The answers of those questions are found through computerized guessing simulations, using TPA items answered by 1395 examinees in response to instruction that discouraged guessing. The results show that guessing shortened the score effectivity range of the subtests, and increasing average subtest scores, which means increasing the average index of difficulty levels (decreasing item difficulties). Subtest scores penalized for guessing tend to be justly corrected, and subtest scale scores based on norms for guessing option B only, or C only, with or without penalty yield high correlations ( .92 to .99) with the original scale scores (without guessing nor penalty). Using random option guessing slightly lowers the correlations (.88 to .97). Guessing penalized or unpenalized yield the same slightly lower alpha reliability (around 0, 03). Thus guessing should be encouraged, especiallyfor the benefit of those who are too anxious to guess, or unwilling to take the risk. Even in the process of scoring, guessing could be provided for blank responses.

IS HER DIAGNOSIS MAJOR DEPRESSION OR SEXUAL REPRESSION?: A NON-WESTERN FIJIAN FEMALE CLINICAL SINGLE CASE STUDY

This article presents a case of a 25-year-old non-western Fijian working class woman who became severely depressed following a love relationship problem. During six months of cognitive-behavioral treatment involving two 1 hour weekly session specifically applying Beck, Rush, Shaw, and Emery (1979) standard cognitive therapy resulted in no treatment gain.
This indicates the inefficacy of such intervention, thus being attributed to differential clinical diagnosis of the syndrome. After termination of therapy, a further in-dept case analysis and review of the patient revealed the importance of sexual repression as possible underlying syndrome, thus suggesting Freud’s psychoanalytic conceptualization of this problem as a possible explanation of her many depressive and anxious symptoms.
A prospective suggestion on possible psychoanalytic treatment is advocated for in such future case of similar nature. The problems of classification of mental disorders in Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM), clinical diagnosis, clinical judgment, and therapeutic bias, are briefly highlighted and discussed with some concluding suggestions.

This study was designed to examine the hypotheses that secure attachment was the best predictor of self-concept rather than unsecured attachment (anxious and avoidance attachments. Intercorrelation-matrix shows that there was positive correlation between secure attachment and self-concept (r = 0,522; p < 0,05) and negative correlation between unsecured attachment and self-concept (r= -0,500; p < 0,05).

The purpose of this research is to measure the impact of teambuilding on work ethos and its contribution to human productivity.
Many approaches have indicated that cohesive group or teamwork has a positive impact on human productivity. The hypothesis of this research was that teambuilding creates good teamwork or work ethos and give contribution to human productivity.
Three hundred and sixty subjects were involved in this study. Subjects were divided into two groups. As the experimental groups, 180 people were divided into 30 small groups, each small group consisted of six people. The remaining became control groups for 180 people. They were also divided into 30 small groups.
The result of this study shows that teambuilding has a positive effect on work ethos (t1= 4,789 p < 0,01; t2 = 9,272 p < 0,01) and a high contribution to human productivity (87.5 percent).
In conclusion, teambuilding has a positive and steady effect on work ethos and a high contribution to human productivity.

This research seeks to investigate the correlation between work values and organizational commitment in the Indonesian context. Two major dimensions of work values, that is intrinsic and extrinsic, were derived from a factor anaysis of Wollack’s scale. Organizational commitment was defined in terms of an individual’s degree of identification and involvement in the work organization.
The study is based on 470 samples with correlational data for the relationships between organizational commitment and work values. The total sample was derived from four different companies and type of the production.
The findings reveal that the correlational relationship between work values and organizational commitment is significantly positive. In general, the intrinsic work values scale is related more to commitment than the extrinsic work values scale. Thus, it may be fair to say that work values which have been demonstrated to be related to commitment in the Western industrial societies also hold true in the Indonesian context. Besides the intrinsic work values scale, demographic characteristics appeared to have a strong and statistically significant relationship with commitment, except for gender.
The implication of the research stems from (1) the finding that work values have a moderately strong correlation with the variable of organizational commitment and (2) that the intrinsic work value scale has a statistically significant and strong relationship than either the extrinsic work value scale or the demographic variables with organizational commitment. As work values is related to commitment, organizations that wish to enhance the commitment of their employees should ensure a congruence between organizational rewards and the work values of employees.

MENINGKATKAN KETRAMPILAN KOMUNIKASI TERTULIS MELALUI PENDEKATAN PERSPEKTIF

Expressing ideas successfully requires a writer’s ability in imagining how his/her readers will interpret his/her writing. The present research is replicating a part of Traxler and Gernsbacher’s research (1993) comparing between experimental group with selection task and control group with rating task.
The experiment uses tangram geometric pictures of Traxler and Gernsbacher’s research (1993) to be described by the writers. The activity proceeds in three meetings each with one-week interval, either for the writer or the reader groups. The subjects are students of the Faculty of Psychology GMU presently writing their undergraduate thesis. The overall thirty-two students were assigned into three groups. Eight students were assigned as experimental writers with the selection task and another eight students were as control writers with the rating task. The rest were readers whose task was to read two writings of two writers of different writing groups. The data was the sum of pictures identified correctly by the readers on the basis of the writers’ description.
Data analysis shows that there is no obvious difference between the experiment and control group in the improvement of writing skill (a student-t test analysis upon the difference of the mean of readers’ improvement between session 1 and 3, between experiment and control group is t=0.816; p

This research is intended to find the effects of real violence on aggressiveness. The hypothesis states that real violence shown on television will increase the aggressiveness of the viewer.
The subjects of the research were 105 soldiers from the 403rd Infantry Battalion /WP. Experimental design were used as a method the pre-test post-test two-group. Data were obtained by an adaptation of the questionnaire made by Buss & Perry (1992), physiological measurement by measuring the systolic & diastolic blood pressure, observation, and interview.
The result shows that real violence on television decreases the aggressiveness of the viewer, who is combat soldiers. The hypothesis is inconsistent with the study’s result because are in military background subjects are used in violence, unlike other researches that uses civilian subjects.

This case study was carried out in 1998 by employing a qualitativinterpretive tradition to invstigate teacher’s conception of the nature of learning and teaching from the Active Learning point of view. The eight school were selected from kecamaan Sewon, Bantul and Kecamatan Umbulharjo Yogyakarta based on the Sub-district educaional Authority. Teachers selected to participate in this study were the best teachers in term of their impleentation of Active Learning in the classroom from each of those schools as recommended by the Principal. Data were gathered by interviewing teachers sample. The data gathered was transcribed then sent to the interviewee for validation, then coded and analyzed. The grounded theory principles of coding were used in analyzing data. This study identified three types of teacher’s conception of learning and teaching from Active Learning approach perspectives: the traditional views, process skill views and constructivist view. It is suggested for further research aimed at investigating to what extent are the teachers able to implement their beliefs and conception of the nature of learning ang teaching into classroom practice.

Substantial physical and emotional changes happen during pregnancy. Even though pregnancy is only a short periode in woman’s life, it determines the physical and psychological quality not only for pregnant woman herself but also for the baby. Pregnant women who are able to develop appropriate adjustment during pregnancy can manage the challenges and changes that happen, so the physical and psychological well being of the mother and baby can be maintained.
This research sets out to understand how far the relationship between family support and women’s adjustment during their first pregnancy . The hypothesis is: there is a positive relationship between family support and women’s adjustment during their first pregnancy.
Subjects of this research were 56 women who underwent their first pregnancy (primigravida). The subjects came from three Public Health Centres of Yogyakarta municipality. Those Public Health Centers were Tegalrejo, Jetis, and Pakulaman. Data were collected by using Family Support Scale which contains 45 items and Adjustment Scale which contains 35 items. Both of the scales had been tested on 40 respondents that had the same characteristics with research subjects. The respondents were from Mergangsan, Danurejan II, and Umbulharjo II Public Health Centres.
The result shows positive correlation between family support and women’s adjustment. The correlation coeffisien (r) is 0,7311 ; p < 0,01 and the determination coefficient (r2) is 0,5346. It means that the research hypothesis is supported by the result of the data analysis.

The aim of the research was to investigate the relationship between women’s perception of menopause and their level of anxiety.
Subjects were members of “Dharma Wanita” UGM. The research used Perception Scale to measure menopause perception, and Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale (TMAS) to measure anxiety. Data analysis was done by using Product Moment Correlation analysis.
This study found that was a significant negative correlation between perception of the menopause and level of anxiety. The correlation indicated that the more positive perception of menopause, the lower level of anxiety; the more negative perception of menopause, the higher level of anxiety.

The aim of this study was to investigate differences using conflict management between students whose followed and not followed Pecinta Alam activities on to face interpersonal conflict in daily life. Subject of each group were 98 students.
The study used measuring instruments in form of scale, namely conflict management scale that modified by Kurdek (1994) and Personality scale from Bortner. The parameters of the research were the state of following Pecinta Alam activity, sex and type of personality.
By using 3 ways varians analysis, the result of the study were:
1. There was differences in the use of conflict management between the students whose followed and not followed Pecinta Alam activity, where the first one have the ability of the use of conflict management more constructive than the second one.
2. There was differences in the use of conflict management between men sudents and women students.
3. There was no difference in the use of conflict management between student with Personality type A and type B.

The purpose of this research is to find the correlation between self esteem and adolescent’s sexual behavior on dating. Self esteem has been measured on specific and connected with sexuality context. Frequency of changing partners has become covariable. Senior high school students who are on dating became the sample of this research, consist of 85 boys and 87 girls.
The result of this research indicate that the correlation between adolescent’s sexual behavior on dating with their self esteem wasn’t significant among boys and was among the girls.

PERAN AKTIF ORANGTUA TERHADAP EKSPRESI TULIS ANAK

This research was aimed to understand parental role in fifth grade students writing ability. Parent’s devotedly attached of literer was obtain to reveal parent’s attention to the development of their children’s writing ability. Children’s writing ability was obtained through writing tasks on the basis of two kinds of stimuli, serial pictures and audiotaped unfinished story.
The subject were 189 fifth grade students of SD Ungaran I, SD Ungaran II, SD Bantul I, SD Cepit I dan SD Cepit IV and SD Karanggondang. The students were given the tasks of writing of both stimuli and the scale to obtain their parent’s devotedly attached of literer.
The data was correlated by the means of Pearson’s product-moment, the result shows significant correlation between parental involvement and the quality of children’s writing. Higher correlations appear particulary on the aspects of parental care of leissure times, study times, and the aspect of parents’s provision for literacy facilities, in both groups.

PROFIL KELUARGA ANAK-ANAK BERMASALAH

Family has a responsibility in child’s well being, physically and psychologically. Family has important roles in educating and socializing children. It is the families a counselor should examine when children have problems with their life such as personality, or educational problems.
The present research is aimed to make family profiles of children with such problems, on the basis of system approach. The profile is made on the basis of family characteristics as a system: family boundary, family rules, and sub-system interaction.
The data was collected from Psychological Consulting Office of the Faculty of Psychology GMU. The information was obtained through in-depth interview as a part of counseling process, done by the researcher as a counselor. Fourteen cases then were content analyzed.
The result shows that the families of the problematic children are characterized by: (1) vague or widely open family boundaries caused by relationships with extended families; (2) confusing if not inadaptive family rules; and (3) isolations, coalitions, low intensity, lesser warm and close relationships of family sub-systems.

EFEKTIVITAS PELATIHAN PROGRAM KELOMPOK “AJI” PADA GURU BIMBINGAN DAN KONSELING

AJI (Adventurous Juvenile Intervention) is a training program designed for increasing group counseling skill in a natural setting by using “learning by doing” and “experiential learning” principle. Through this program school counselors not only have an opportunity to participate in-group counseling session but also practic to become a group counselor.
This research aimed to test the effectiveness of AJI program in increasing the skill of school counselor for group counseling. The subject was 21 school counselors of middle school (SLTP) from Sleman Yogyakarta (11 male and 10 female; 12 subject hold S1 and 9 subject got D3 Diploma Degree). Quasiexperiment method was applied.
The results indicate that there is a significant difference in the subject’s skill in counseling before and after intervention (t = -15.617; p < 0,01). There is also significant difference in the knowledge of group counseling (t = -20.414; p< 0,01). The qualitative data can be concluded that the school counselors get a deeper understanding of group counseling and its procedure as well as their ability to lead a group counseling for students. Overall, both quantitative and qualitative data analysis indicated that AJI program is effective in increasing the counseling skill of school counselors.

FAKTOR-FAKTOR PENYEBAB PERILAKU MEROKOK PADA REMAJA

The purpose of this study was to determine which were predictors of smoking behavior on adolescents.
The subjects of this study were 75 male, aged 15-18 years, and smokers. This study were done toward Scale of Parent’s Permissiveness Attitude to smoking behavior, Scale of peer influence, Scale of Psychological Satisfaction, and Scale of Smoking Behavior.
The hypothesis was that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior; influence of peer, psychological satisfaction was predictors toward smoking behavior on adolescents.
There was co-linearity phenomenon between psychological satisfaction and others predictor so that psychological satisfaction out of regression analysis.
The result of regression analysis showed that F value = 22,468 (p < 0,05) and R = (R = 0,620 ate R2 = 0,384). This meant that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior and influence of peer was predictors toward smoking behavior on adolescents. It could be concluded that parent’s permissiveness attitude to smoking behavior and influence of peer were effectively contribution 38,4%.

The aim of this study was to make an objective description about self concept of “Perempuan Marginal” (women in marginal social and economic status) by concerning the rearing environment characterization. The hypotesis was there is difference self-concept related in the rearing environmen.
Data was collected from 77 subjects, 34 subjects upbringing by original family, 34 subject were reared in orphanage and the rest 9 subjects were taken from street children community. Data was gathered by Q-Sort test modification, observation, interview and also by Focus Group Discussion.
Result shows that female teenagers from orphanage have the highest selfconcept, meanwhile female teenagers from street children community have the lowest self-concept.

Research was based on drug abused phenomenon of youth, which lead to the question: what the real caused and the effect of drug abuse was.
The aim of the research was to find out whether there were correlation between self-disclosure and drug abuse, the drug abuse and sexual behavior, and the self-disclosure and sexual behavior. Here also to answer empirical research about why the interrelation between 3 variables above was existed and how those effect to one another.
Subjects were 18-24 years old drug users in Yogyakarta and already graduated from or still in High School. Fifty-one subjects successfully participate this research. Researcher was using Quantitative Method for analyzing data, Product Moment Analysis and Regression Analysis, and Qualitative Method for answering empirical question about the psychological dynamics of drug abusers.
The research was proceed by giving Self-Disclosure Questionnaire and Sexual Behavior Questionnaire to all subjects. Followed by In Depth Interview, Participant Observation, and finally Focus Group Discussion was conducted to 3 of them in order to have a comprehensive understanding about drug abusers.
The result of quantitative data analysis shows there are no correlation between either sels-disclosure and drug abuse nor drug abuse and sexual behavior. Nevertheless, there is a significance correlation between selfdisclosure and sexual behavior. The result of qualitative data shows some substance dealing with drug abusers. The substances are the the first drug used started from trial and error, the effect of drugs abused to sexual behavior depend on each individual differences, and the users show unsatisfied relationships to their parents but has a high level of self-disclosure especially to the peer from the same sex.

MARITAL CONFLICT RESOLUTION OF MIDDLE CLASS JAVANESE COUPLES

This research set out to learn more about Javanese couple’s strategies in handling their conflict. The strategies of three couples from middle class social status, resident in the city of Yogyakarta, were explored by using semi-structured interview methods and repeating the interviews over three cycles.
It was found that the strategies applied for managing conflict reflect avoidance of conflict, while the strategies for problem solving tend to be strategies related to self management, that is, the attempt to control oneself in order to cope with stress. It appears that these strategies are strongly influenced by traditional values and philosophies.

Verbal ability is the important things to support the quality of writing. The verbal competence is consisted; (a) the vocabulary competence, (b) verbal reasoning.
The reasearch is aimed at finding out the quality of writing expression by considering influencing variable verbal competence. Subject of the study were pupils at fifth grade at Kodya Yogyakarta, Primary School.
The result of correlation analysis and qualitative analysis indicated that there is positive and significant correlation between quality of verbal competence and the quality of writing.

The heuristic theory of justice proposes that earlier information and judgment affect the later judgment. If the earlier information and judgment is of procedure it will affect the judgment of distributive fairness. In contrast, if the earlier information and judgment is distributive fairness judgment it will affect the judgment of procedural fairness. This study shows that the influence of earlier information and fairness judgment is effective if it is procedural matter.
The effect of distribution and distributive fairness judgment on procedural fairness judgment is not significant.

DOUBLE DE-MOTIVATION AND INTRINSIC MOTIVATION AMONG TEACHERS IN INDONESIA

The “double de-motivation” hypothesis (Carr & MacLachlan, 1993/4; MacLachlan & Carr, 1993) has empirically been established by recent studies (e.g., Carr et al., 1996; McLoughlin & Carr, 1997), however, the other motivational effects on organizational dynamics that this phenomenon symbiosis with has not been explored. One principal human factor that has direct link to double de-motivation is intrinsic motivation. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the double de-motivation hypothesis and intrinsic motivation among English teachers in Indonesia. A total of 188 participants responded to Carr et al’s (1996) pay and job satisfaction scale and Morse and Weiss’s (1955) Lottery Questionnaire (LQ). Based on pay differential criteria derived from the first segment of pay and job satisfaction scale, expatriate and local teachers were classified into underpaid (n = 66, local teachers), overpaid (n = 60, expatriate teachers), and equitable paid (n = 62, local and expatriate teachers) groups. On the basis of theoretical and literature review of double de-motivation and intrinsic motivation, two hypotheses emerged in this study. First, to replicate double de-motivation, it was predicted that the underpaid and overpaid groups will be de-motivated, thus experiencing double de-motivation as compared with the equitable paid group. The results supported the hypothesis and showed distinctively that the underpaid and overpaid groups were significantly less satisfied or de-motivated than equitable paid group, thus confirming the existence of double de-motivation. Second, it was predicted that the underpaid and overpaid groups will possess less intrinsic motivation as compared to the equitable paid group. The results revealed that both the underpaid and overpaid groups possessed significantly lower level of intrinsic motivation than equitable paid group. The findings are discussed in relation to organisational management for inequity in salary, and the shortcoming of the study is highlighted with a concluding recommendation.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of completeness of product knowledge on purchasing intention of skin whitening cosmetics.
The subjects were 120 women who Senior High School graduatees at least. They were assigned randomly and the controlled group consisted of 60 women. The experimental group was given an skin whitening cosmetics consisted of completed product knowledge of label, but the controlled group was given an incompleted one.
Both group were examined the intensity of purcahasing intention of skin whitening cosmetics. Data of this research were collected through purchasing intention questionnaire. Data were analyzed by t-test and the result showed that there was a significant differences between the experimental group and the controlled group with t= 3,431, p=0,001.
Based on the result, it could be concluded that the completeness level of product knowledge was effective to increase purchasing intention of skin whitening cosmetics.

The goal of this research is to know the correlation between emotional maturity and self-acceptance of the old people. The dependence variable of this research is self-acceptance, which is measured by self-acceptance scale. The independence variable is emotional maturity, which is measured by emotional maturity scale.
This research is applied to the 32 old people, the minimal age is 65, retired, can still response to the items, and does not live in the Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha. The quantitative analysis, the correlation analysis of the emotional maturity score and self-acceptance score, show that there is a positive correlation between emotional maturity and self-acceptance of the old people.

Bomer Pasaribu (CLDS, 2002), predicted that educated unemployee in Indonesia is 40 million by December 2002. One solution to decrease educated unemployee is being an entrepreneur. Chandra says that a person can be an entrepreneur if he have an optimum emotional intelligence.
The research examines there is a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and intrapreneurship at college students. Intrapreneurship at college students is when college students organization use the talents of their creative members to develop innovative products and services for the organizations. Very simple put, intrapreneurhip at college students is entrepreneurship practiced by people within established organizations. The research subject is college students.
Data is collected by using scale scale A is Emotional Intelligence Scale according to Patton, Cooper, and Sawaf Theory (2000), consists of (1) emotional literacy, (2) emotional fitness, (3) emotional depth, and (4) emotional alchemy. Scale B is Entrepreneurship Scale according to Peter Ferdinand Drucker (1985), consists of (1) able to see a business chance, (2) have a self confidence and able to behave good to their own and environment, (3) leadership behavior, (4) have inisiative, creativity, and innovation, (5) able to be a hard worker, (6) have a wide vision and good optimism, (7) dare to take a calculated risk, (8) have a sensitivity of critic and comment.
The results shows that correlation coefficient level (r) concluded from the two variables is 0,632 with significance level (p) = 0,000 (p < 0,01), so the research hypothesis can be accepted. Emotional Intelligence gives 39,9% effective contribution for Entrepreneurship at college students.

The purpose of this research is to know the correlation between family social support and self-efficacy of adolescent. Its hypothesis, there is any positive correlation between family social support and self-efficacy of adolescent. More higher to get family social support, more higher to get self efficacy. While more lower to get family social support, more lower to get self efficacy. The subject of this research, the first and the second class of senior high school students in SMU Negeri 9 Yogyakarta with the average age between 14 to 18 years old and the total number are 143 persons. The validity used is content validity while reliability test uses coefficient technique of Alpha reliability from Cronbach. Data analysis uses correlation technique of Product Moment from Pearson. Normality test result with Kolmogorov Smirnov of Fit Test (K-SZ) points out that the variable of self efficacy has coefficient K-SZ=0,535 with p>0,05 while the variable of family social support has coefficient K-SZ=0,763 with p>0,05 howing both variables having normal distribution. This research was intended to discover the correlation relationship between the effective communications about sexuality in family on early adolescents’ attitude toward free socialization among youths of different sexes. The subjects of the research were 370 Junior High School students that consisted of 185 female students and 185 male students from SLTP PIRI I Yogyakarta and SLTPN 5 Depok Sleman. Three psychological scales made by the researcher were used to obtain the data. The first psychological scale was the communications about sexuality in family for the early female adolescents and it consisted of 23 items. The second psychological scale was the communications about sexuality in family for the early male adolescents and it also consisted of 23 items. The third psychological scale was the attitude toward free socialization among youths of different sexes and it consisted of 66 items. Data analysis by Pearson product moment analysis shows that the correlation relationship between the effective communications about sexuality in family and early adolescents’ attitude toward free socialization among youths of different sexes was significantly positive for both female and male students (rxy1 =0,201 ; p= 0,003 and rxy2 =0,147 ; p= 0,023 p ′ 0,05). The effective contribution given by the effective communications about sexuality in family on early adolescents’ attitude toward free socialization among youths of different sexes was 4% for female students and 2,2% for male students. Data analysis by applying the t – test analysis shows that there was a significant difference between female and male students’ attitude toward free socialization among youths of different sexes ( X L = 177,88 ∃ X P = 159,12; t = - 6,4 ; p = 0,000, p ′ 0,01). It means that the attitude of early male adolescents toward free socialization among youths of different sexes is higher than early female adolescents.

The main problem in interpersonal communication anxiety is there are feeling of worried another respons or jugdment for her or him about something that sent and how she was send. Dependability for others judgment is one of characteristics from low self confidence.
The purpose of the study was to see the relation between self confidence and interpersonal communication anxiety and differences between communication anxiety at male and female students.
The subjects of this study were 61 female and 57 male students from Economic Faculty of UKRIM at Yogyakarta. The hypothesis were: 1. There is a negatif correlation between self confidence and interpersonal communication anxiety, 2. There is a difference communications anxiety between male and female studens. The first and the second hypothesis has analysed by Pearson's product moment correlation and by t test respectivelly. Data were gethered by Self confidence scale modification from Lauster (1978) and interpersonal communication anxiety scale modification from Syarani (1995).
The result showed there was significant negatif correlation between self confidence and interpersonal communication anxiety (r = - 0,725 ; p < 0,01) and the t test showed a value of r = -0,678 and p > 0.05. From the values above, it could be concluded that there was no differences of interpersonal communication axxiety in male and female students.

Do the emphaty determine the smoking behavior? And is the smoking behavior in the public areas, such as in the train station, in the cinema, in the cafetaria, in the car park, and on the bus affected by the low of empathy.? One hundred and fifty students, 15-22 years old participated in this study. They were asked to fill the Emphaty Scales (SE) and Smoking Behavior Scales (SPM) in when they were smoking in the public area. The Product Moment analysis showed that there is a negative correlation (-0,207) between the two. The higher the emphatetic the lower the smoking behavior, especially in the public areas. This research also found out that the frequency of smoking is related to the empathy. Therefore, people who smoke in the public areas should be the hard smokers.
