Abstract

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is a disease caused by the genus Aphthovirus of the  Picornaviridae family. This virus attacks cloven hooves and quickly infects animals, either directly or indirectly. Clinical symptoms commonly experienced by animals affected by foot and mouth diseases are increased body temperature, excessive salivation, and the presence of lesions between the legs. High temperature or fever in clinical symptoms usually appears before the formation of vesicular lesions.  Temperature can also be used as an important indicator to determine the health and physiological status of animals. This study aims to compare the temperature of cows infected with foot and mouth diseases  (FMD) in the pre-treatment, recovery, and recovery phases. This study uses 6 cows showing clinical signs of FMD and originating from Sleman, Yogyakarta. Rectal temperature is measured using a thermometer and obtained the average temperature before treatment, healing period, and recovery respectively: 40.32  °C; 38.78 °C; 38.33 °C. This data is processed through statistical analysis using the ANOVA method and the results showed that there were differences in the rectal temperature of cows infected with FMD in the pre-treatment, convalescent, and recovery phases (p>0.05). It can be concluded that in each phase of infection with the foot and mouth virus virus, there is a difference in rectal temperature.
