PEMBICARAAN RINGKAS PUISI-PUISI SUBAGIO SASTROWARDOYO
Hae, Zen
h: 0px; "> AbstractThis paper attempts to discuss the return of the most important aspects of poetry Subagio Sastrowardoyo. Atfirst he tried to sit Subagio in modern Indonesian literature map by comparing with predecessor and fellow poet ofhis generation. In this comparison, its difference and important characteristics are found, especially their contributionto today‘s Indonesian that is by reintroducing “poetic essays” (essay poem/essayistic poetry) which had already beengrowing in the treasures of foreign literature. In Subagio‘s type, poetry is seen as an attempt to think the endless, whichfurther underline abstract rather than the sensory which is prosaic rather than poetic. As prosaic poem, Subagio seemsnot merely retelling certain treasures, such as puppetry mythology, but the subversion of the origin story. In other parts,Subagio‘s poetry also shows his character as a strong symbolic poetry and also trying to reformulate the poems in thepoetry (Ars Poetica) as a way to present poetry and irony in his chosen style of writing poems. Keywords: Subagio, essayistic poetry, prose writer, subversion

METAKRITIK UNTUK SUBAGIO SASTROWARDOYO
Prasetyo, Arif Bagus
troke-width: 0px; "> AbstractSubagio Sastrowardoyo produces good structural analysis in a number of literary studies. One is the studyof Sitor Situmorang‘S poetry Sosok Pribadi dalam Sajak. The essay is submitted by Teeuw “as an example andvery precise topic” about endeavor of searching the hidden meanings in unanimity and elusive of modern poetry. InSitumorang‘s poetry , the focus discussion of Sastrowardoyo about literature and culture is based on a reading SosokPribadi dalam Sajak (SPdS), Sastra Hindia Belanda dan Kita, SHBdK dan Bakat Alam dan Intelektualisme.Overall, the SPDs are written which prioritizes the interpretation of the inner world , psychiatric or “private figure”author as depicted on the content of his work. Content, strong romantic and modernist understanding that puts the artistat the center of artistic creation, has encouraged Sastrowardoyo to blur quality of assessment and work of the authorpersonally, and to blur the distinction between art criticism and morality criticism, and the issue of aesthetics and ethicsmatters. Sharpness, accuracy, and diligence analysis are often dimmed by passion on doing “holy inquisition” against theauthor. In SHBdK, Sastrowardoyo shifts away from expressive to structural approach, though he never lost interest inthe “private figure” of the author. Keywords: meta-critic , Subagio, SPDs, aesthetics, ethics

Purnomosasi, Lusia Kristiasih Dwi
Comparative literature study by Claudio Guillen has basic reason namely Weltliteratur. Guillen did criticism upon it to formulate his own method on comparative literature research. Goethe has inspired him to create the basic assumsion of his theory; the one and the many and the universal and the local as well, upon which the internationality by socio-historical perspectives is conducted to identify the diachronic structure. It will reveal the supranationality within the primary data being compared. A researcher will stand on 5 principles, one of which is thematology where a principle motif of a theme lies as a means of dialog in internationality. Keywords: comparative literature, internationality, diachronic structure, supranationality

RUANG PASCAKOLONIAL DALAM THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS KARYA ARUNDHATI ROY
Suciati, Endang
This paper discussed about the construction of space in The God of Small Things novel by Arundhati Royusing post-colonial space theory by Sara Upstone to find out the representation of the West and the East inside andand outside the domestic space including the post-colonial strategy used. It was because The God of Small Things seemedto talk about the condition of the dualistic post-colonial Indian society. Then, India itself is one of the dualistic postcolonial societies which means that it still holds its own traditions and runs the culture left by the colonial. Both colonialand Indian culture had their own rules with their borders that controlled people’s life but they were repressive to the society. The result of this analysis proved that in the context of domestic space and its surroundings, The God of Small Thingsshowed the representation of the West and the East that caused transgression and chaos. The chaos led to post-spaceoutside the home. Once, the novel showed that the post-space could also be done inside the home. Thus, the novel wasdeconstructing the construction, including the construction of post-colonial itself. It happened since the problem began indualistic conditions of post-colonial Indian. Keywords: colonial, post-colonial, chaos, post-space.

MASALAH CINA, MASALAH CINTA: POSISI ORANG TIONGHOA DALAM DI KAKI BUKIT CIBALAK KARYA AHMAD TOHARI
Woodrich, Christopher
e-width: 0px; "> For the duration of the New Order era (1966–98), the position of Chinese Indonesians was considereda problematic question: they were not “Pribumi” (native), but also not entirely Chinese. This “Chinese Problem”was discussed by a variety of speakers and writers, including several authors of literary works. In Di Kaki BukitCibalak (1977), Ahmad Tohari presents two ethnic Chinese characters, Nyonya Wibawa and Mulyani, the first asthe employer and the second as the lover of the main character, Pambudi. By applying Goldmann’s theory of geneticstructuralism, we show that through his depiction of the physical and behavioural aspects of the characters, Toharipromotes an assimilationist approach as the only possible solution to the Chinese problem (if it can be solved): thedichotomies between ethnic Chinese and Native Indonesians must be erased. However, Tohari continues to differentiatethe ethnic Chinese by positioning them as persons who must only act to support the welfare of the Pribumi. Keywords: “The Chinese Problem”, Ahmad Tohari, position of Chinese Indonesians, Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak

KETERASINGAN DALAM UTOPIA CERPEN “ANTARA DEN HAAG DAN DELFT” KARYA RILDA A.OE TANEKO
Febri Putra, Galuh
This paper is focused on the alienation which caused by nation in Rilda A.Oe Taneko’s short story entitled “Antara Den Haag dan Delft”. Independent nation which is simply a rewriting of what has been taken away by the colonizer created fixation of space which can not accommodate all interests. This circumstance forced ‘kakek’ (an old man) in the short story to imagine the ideal space outside the nation. However, in the utopia kakek feels alienated. This paper used the Postcolonial theory by Sara Upstone which conceptualize that the independent nation and colonizer do the same act, they just covered the instability in the space of nation. In the attempt to achieve independence, nation used the slogan unity in diversity. The instability led a journey to the utopia city where there is no limitations in place. Kakek in the short story feels alienated in the utopia city because of the cover of instability in the form of his love to the nation that given to him. Anything that is not a part of his nation turned into something strange. Keywords: alienation, utopia, love to the nation.

PARADOKS RUANG TUBUH DALAM PUISI “SAKRAMEN” KARYA JOKO PINURBO: KAJIAN ‘PASCAKOLONIAL TUBUH’ SARA UPSTONE
Rahariyoso, Dwi
This essay explains about postcolonial space body in the poem Sakramen by Joko Pinurbo. In the Upstonepostcolonial context, body is the subject which being ordered the same with home, journey, nation, and city. Body becomesthe last space in colonialism, as a form of power and ownership implementation in supporting the existed systems. Bodybecomes part of colonial absolute definition target, but there is posibility of redefinition continuance. This researchfinds that body construction is found in Sakramen poem paradoxically presents dialiectic between body and soul whichrevolve in the matter of God as body. This construction in the end becomes self-deconstruction for the author whichontologically refers that body (material) is destroyed in impermanence, while spirit (idea) of Christ as God is idealizedin unity. In the end, this condition directs that the ideal contruction is in the spirit world, while in here, (the empirical, physical) is just irony.Keyword: space, post-colonialism, chaos, altenative body, whole budy, paradox, self-deconstruction, irony.

KONSTRUKSI RUANG KOTA POSKOLONIAL DAN RESPONS SPASIAL DALAM NOVEL THE KITE RUNNER KARYA KHALED HOSSEINI
Adzhani, Shabrina An
; "> In the time of war, people usually migrate from troubled places to the safe and sound cities, promising a better life. However, the position of cities as a promising space is questionable. It is due to the close relation between city utopia andcolonial city. In fact, there are indications of colonial continuation through industrialization which ends up to domination inmany aspects; economy, social, and cultural. One of postcolonial novels written by a diaspora writer, Khaled Hosseini, takesup a theme of migration from a city (Kabul) in a troubled country, Afghanistan, to a city (Fremont) in a more stable country,America. Sara Upstone’s method of reading on spatial politics in postcolonial novels is used here to read how Fremont isconstructed in the novel and the spatial respond occurred. The analysis showed that Khaled Hosseini’s construction uponFremont is that utopia is denied from the beginning of the novel. Fremont becomes oppressive space and yet, it offers possibilitiesfor spatial responds such as displacement and carnivalisation to occur. These are strategies used by those who are subjected tooppression in the city space. Keywords: City space, postcolonial, spatial respond.

PENGGAMBARAN DUNIA DALAM NOVEL PERJALANAN 99 CAHAYA DI LANGIT EROPA
Mashlihatin, Anis
This paper discussed about the objective and the subjective observations which are used by the writer in representing the world when the writer is traveling. World is not just merely a landscape or places, but there is also people. Through objectivity point of view, the writer is taking distance with the world which is described. On the contrary, subjective observation emphasizes the personal involvement of the writer towards the described world. In this research, we can see in both places and people, subjective observation is more dominant than the objective observation. Observation always sets off from the objective point of view to the subjective point of view. Some places are described objectively, but then it shifted into subjective. Explicit subjective observation is more dominant than the implicit one. However, even if the quantity is lesser, the implicit subjectivity gives more significant influence. Keywords: objective, subjective, travel

PRODUKSI SIMBOL DALAM SAMPUL BUKU SASTRA TERBITAN GRAMEDIA
Anwar, Saeful
As the design and printing technology develops rapidly, the covers’ design of literary books on store develops as well. The covers tell not only title, writer’s name, and publisher, but also show textual symbols such as subtitle, phrases describing title, phrases describing writer, book category, quotes of the content, other writer’s comment, and more. Those additional texts make the cover look full. Gramedia is one of the publishers which keeps putting only title and writer’s name on the book covers without adding up more additional texts mentioned above. Instead, the publisher put the additional texts on the back cover. This article aims at explaining why Gramedia keeps the design of book covers that way. This article applies method of Bourdieu’s theory on literary sociology. The result shows that Gramedia applies a strategy of symbolic capital exchange among the writers whose works published by Gramedia. The symbolic capital exchange is used indirectly to increase the literary books’ sale. Gramedia takes a subtle way of the strategy to keep the symbolic capital of the books and their writers affiliated with the publisher. Gradually the publisher gathers more symbolic capital that consequently increase its economic capital. Keywords: symbol production, Gramedia, literary books’ covers, literary sociology, Bordieu.

SUBJEKTIVITAS DALAM CERITA PERJALANAN NOVEL LUMBINI KARYA KRIS BUDIMAN
Sri Purwaningsih, Novi
In the recent years, there are numerous books containing travel writing, both in Indonesia and abroad, have been published. The books can be a novel, memoir, travelogue, poetry, and short story. One of the novels containing travel writing is Lumbini written by Kris Budiman. It is about Ratna and Niko who travel to Nepal. Told in many points of view, this novel shows its subjectivities. In order to reveal this, the researcher will apply the concept of travel writing by Carl Thompson. Through the analysis, it is found that subject “I” in this novel is not a dependent subject because it, sometimes, is substituated with “we”. Besides, subject “I” also interact with other object. Thus, the subject can be classified as an “romantic self”. According to Thompson, it seemingly more open than Enlightenment self. Keywords: subjectivity, travel writing, romantic subject.

KRITIK SASTRA DI PRANCIS
Al-Fayyadl, Muhammad
The emergence of literary criticism, as sort of “literary institution” in a modern sense, is relatively a new phenomenon in France as it happened in 19th century and would be more institutionalized in 20th century. It due to the progressive distinction between the author criticism and the critic cricitism as well as to the decline of poetic representation, which has been built on hierarchy of genres and critic’s superiority over authors in 17th century. This article traces the institutionalization of literary criticism and the duality of its practices through the lens of Roland Barthes’ “two criticism”, applied to read the practices of literary criticism in France from 16th century onwards. Keywords: literary criticism, “two criticism”, crisis.

PERFORMATIVITAS DALAM MANGA SHONEN-AI: SEKAIICHI HATSUKOI, HENSHIN DEKINAI DAN HIMANANODE HAJIMETE MIMASHITA
Savitri Paramita, Ni Made
This research underlies the analysis on the performance and performativity of characters in shonen-ai: Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, Henshin Dekinai, and Himananode Hajimete Mimashita manga. Characterization in shonen-ai manga is based on the characters’ role within the same-sex relationship, which are the male role (seme) and the female role (uke). The character of Seme tends to be aggressive, protective, smart, good looking, and unemotional. On the other hand, Uke is feminine, smaller, physically weak, insecure, and emotional. The writer would like to analyze whether performance align with performativity based on the characterization of seme and uke. Judith Butler’s Performativity is used as theoretical framework within the research. The theory covers gender, performance, and performativity. Gender as social construction is fluid and unbound to the body. This phenomenon is seen in these three shonen-ai manga. Character that looks masculine does not always have the male role (seme) and the feminine one does not always have the female role (uke). Physical performance is not merely associated with gender (performativity). Keywords: shonen-ai manga, same-sex relationship, performativity, gender.

REALISME MAGIS DALAM CERPEN: KASUS CERPEN GABRIEL GARCIA MARQUEZ, TRIYANTO TRIWIKROMO, DAN A.S. LAKSANA
Muhtarom, Imam
Magic Realism Prose brings the magic and the reality at once in a narration. Reality and magic have mutual support to build a narration. The support between the reality and the magic is not only manifested in the unity of the narration but also gives the possibility to give the meaning that goes beyond the narration itself. In other words, the meaning also gives the magic realism experience for the readers. This paper will analyze the form of magic realism in Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s short story entitled “Light is Like Water”, Triyanto Triwikromo’s short story entitled “Sayap Kabut Sultan Ngamid”, and A.S. Laksana’s short story entitled “Dongeng Cinta yang Dungu”.Keywords: real, magic, prose, magic realism.

PROSA, RUANG, DAN KOTA PASCAKOLONIAL
Atikurrahman, Moh.
Today, the studies on post-colonial urban space in relation with Indonesian modern prose can be said to be minimal. On the other hand, in the history of Indonesian literature, we are endowed with writers like Armijn Pane, Idrus, Pramoedya Ananta Toer, Iwan Simatupang, Budi Darma etc., who consistently write prose with the background of the ex-colonial towns. Unfortunately, there is no enough studies of the encounter between those writers with the city as a representation of a post-colonial experience. This paper tried to track the integral relationship between Indonesian modern prose writers to the city by using the spatial space theory in relation to the study of post-colonial literature in Indonesia. This analysis used the spatial theory by Sara Upstone as the approach, especially regarding to space (spatial) city. Keywords: spatial, city, postcolonial.

The result of the discussion shows that the White colonial in Van Diemen’s Land constructed their colonial space by arousing chaos and establishing order and borders to create a fixed boundary. The constructed space is proven fail to achieve its goal by arousing some self contradictions which make it lays as merely a utopia. Chaos appears within the order or structure of the space followed by violations trespass the colonial borders to create a new order or structure of a post-space. Post-space within its process will be a new space with new possibilities of chaos, thus, space will be continuously constructed and deconstructed as a form of spatial response of postcolonial space. Keywords: Colonialism, Postcolonial Space, Spatial Response, Aborigines.

Literature Studies
Mirah dari Banda, women, double oppression, nostalgia.
This study specifically examines the multiple forms of oppression that is found in the novel Mirah dari Banda by postcolonial feminist perspective. The analysis showed that the novel talk about inferior position of women as a result of the dominance of Dutch and Japanese colonial system and patriarchal domination both colonial and indigenous men. With the two forms of oppression Thus, indigenous women suffer and the lowest level in a colonial situation. Associated with the time of publication, the 1980 novel Mirah dari Banda include nostalgia novel of oppression and the strug gle against colonialism. Thus at the same nostalgic attitude can be regarded as a reflection on the possibility of the presence of the double oppression of women today which synonymous with the era of capitalism (imperialism) and still rooted patriarchal ideology.

STRATEGI CAMP DALAM NOVEL HIDING MY CANDY KARYA LADY CHABLIS
Saraswati, Sri
Literature Studies
Camp strategy, transgender, transgender survival, social visibility, heteronormativity
This study aims at discussing about the forms of Camp strategies as well as elaborating the purpose of its application in Lady Chablis’ Hiding My Candy. Hiding My Candy tells a story of a transgender name The Doll who fights for her survival among patriarchal community. To answer the objectives of the research, Moe Meyer’s Camp theor y will be applied. In the book of the Politics and Poetics of Camp, Meyer defines Camp as the total body of performative practices and strategies used to enact a queer identity, with enactment defined as the production of social visibility. The emergence of Camp as a survival strategy appears due to the challenge of transgender discrimination resulted by heteronormativity restraint. The study result shows that transgender survival can be divided into three aspects i.e. social visibility, alternative normative and transgender empowerment. Those transgender survival’s aspects can be achieved by applying the Camp strategies. Those strategies include parody Camp strategy, humor Camp strategy, strategy of posing (costume, gesture and speech act) and strategy of life in performance.

WOMB CONTROL IN TONI MORRISON’S BELOVED
Fatmasari, Yuniar
Literature Studies
image, womb control, mammy, breeder woman, jezebel, self-definition
This study reveals the ideological strategies the dominant takes to exploit Black enslaved women’s womb experienced by the characters in Toni Morrison’s Beloved as well as their resistance. Written in 1987, the novel is set eight years after the end of the Civil War in time painful experiences during slavery era are still there in the mind of ex-enslaved Black women and men. The novel narrates the past through personal life experiences presented by Sethe and Baby Suggs. During slavery era, their bodies are not merely used to work in the plantation area but since they are women, their wombs are valuable commodity providing advantages and profit to the masters. To make it possible, the dominant function ideological strategies to control the Black enslaved women’s wombs. Therefore, this study tries to explore how the ideological strategies are practiced in the novel. According to Collins, creating negative images such as mammy, breeder woman, and jezebel addresses to the bodies of Black enslaved women belongs to ideological strategy which is more powerful compared to the economic and politic strategy. Each image covers dominant interest to control Black women’s womb under new-progressive capitalism in United States. The result of the study shows that those three images works effectively to control the Black enslaved women, even nowadays, those images are still there in the body of young generation of Black women and provide another form of womb’scontrol. However, the study as well finds out that the resistance toward the oppression is also varied. Self-definition is presumed to be a fundamental element to the journey of internalized oppression to the ‘free mind’ which eventually leads to the action of resistance. With this self-definition, Blackwomen begin to deny the existed negative images controlling their wombs.

Diva is the main character in novel Scappa per Amore which is written by Dini Fitria. In the story, Diva travels to European countries and meets other female characters who experience patriarchal and social discrimination. This research tries to describe the discrimination which is experienced by female characters by using multicultural feminism approach. The novel indicates that the female characters in the novel are not only marginalized due to their gender, but also their age, religion, race, and the legal status of the children. Multicultural feminism approach focuses on multicultural aspects that respect diversities. This research believes that discrimination toward women could be avoided, because women need to be treated equally.

binary gender; gender categorization; genderless

Julian, Royyan
Literature Studies
myth of beauty, short stories by Dwi Ratih Ramadhany.
This study highlights the myth of beauty in short stories written by Dwi Ratih Ramadhany, which are “Janda Sungai Gayam” and “Perempuan Bisu dan Cermin Ratu”. The perspective utilized in this study is the myth of beauty by Naomi Wolf. The results are: (1) both the short stories illustrate standards of beauty identified by long black hair, long neck, sensual lips, body fragrant, white-toned-smooth-skin, and slim body; (2) in both short stories, the quality of beauty refers to behaviors that could arouse an excitement rather than merely consider physical appearance;(3) regarding beauty not as an intrinsic quality, it is affected by external factors, for instance cosmetic and supernatural powers. Myth of beauty in both short stories stands on the runway of men’s interest and taste, and women’s motive toachieve resources provided by men, which are called loyalty, recognition, praise and charm.

Literature Studies
Desire, Freedom, Psychoanalysis, Lacan, Nano Riantiarno
Literary works known as authors’ desire manifestation. In its history, a desire comes from the feeling of the lack of subject. Writing a literary work becomes an effort to hide it. The effort can be seen through an author’s point of view on ego ideal in his works. Novel of Cermin Cinta is chosen as a sample in order to search what and how Nano Riantiarno’s desires are. The aim is to find out the reflecting of Nano’s ego ideal. This study uses Lacanian Psychoanalysis (PL). Metaphor and metonymy will be used through PL in looking deeply the signs of Nano’s desire in Cermin Cinta. This study finds out that a desire of becoming a writer and an artist has guided Nano unconsciously to other symbolic signs, such as being a ‘tough’, ‘consistent’, ‘determined’, ‘diligent’ writer, etc. His effort in setting up a theatre community where he becomes the characters writer and director which was reached from the images of Rendra, Putu Wijaya, Arifin C. Noor, and Teguh Karya becomes his desire about the ontological intactness for his identity. Besides, ‘Freedom’ becomes ‘object a’ of Nano to get jouissance for himself.

woman narration, female gaze, Atiq Rahimi, patriarchal
This study aims to determine the position of the author in women narration. With Rahimi’s background as a feminist, he said that with his novel he voiced the voices of Afghan women. Rahimi offered a strong female figure in the middle of the patriarchal shackles who is able to fight the system. The problem of this study is Rahimi’s ambiguity in narrating women. To determine the position of the author, the research uses the concept of the lure of the image belongs to Lidia Curti. The lure of the image is an offer provided by the author to give positions to women that are in fact not provided by them. Based on the research conducted, the results show that Rahimi keeps women as objects in a patriarchal world. In this case he is not able to pull the women out of the patriarchal zone. The space given to women by Rahimi reinforces male power. What Rahimi written in this novel is the lure of the image according to Curti’s concept which explains it as an image of women given by author or known as female gaze.

READING SIMULATION IN YANN MARTEL’S LIFE OF PI

Simulation, Simulacra, Hyper-reality and the Stories
Yann Martel’s Life of Pi tells a story of a survivor boy floating on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger passing Pacific Ocean with the brutal show between animals. He is insisted to tell about more realistic story, thus he tells it contains of similar conflicts with different characters; the animals are changed into humans. Here, it shows two stories in one story which blurs the true story behind it. This is what Baudrillard the process of simulation over simulacra; the reproduced false representation of the true reality. The two stories can be both true and thus, the questions can be problematized are; (1) How is simulation understood in Yann Martel’s Life of Pi? (2) What is the hyper-reality resulted as the impact of simulation represented in Yann Martel’s Life of Pi? The used method is objective approach (textually) and based on the analysis, the two stories are connected to each other, animal story represents human story while human story represents the animal story. The animal story can be seen as the false copy of the true story because it copies the human story, so can human story. This is simulation and this simulation results on the two true stories which are hyper-reality.

This research was aimed to describe how the author’s desire manifested through Akar’s novel. There was a relationship between the story of Akar’s novel, which has a Buddhism background, with Dee’s interest as the author’s toward buddha’s teachings that became an indication about the relation between author’s desire and Akar’s novel. To answer this indication, the writer used Lacan’s Psychoanalysis method through the mechanism of metaphor and metonymy by analyzing a series of signifiers on Akar’s novel, so it will discover what exactly the desire of “being” and “having” of the author.

POSMODERN DAN SASTRA INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIA
Furqan, Arif
sastra, indigenous, australia, globalisasi, kapitalisme, posmodern

POSMODERNISME LINDA HUTCHEON: POETICS OF POSTMODERNISM (1989) DAN POLITIC OF POSTMODERNISM (2002)
Supriyadi, Supriyadi
Politik, Poetika, Posmodernisme, Linda Hutcheon

IMPOSSIBLE MODERNISM: T.S. ELIOT, WALTER BENJAMIN, AND THE CRITIQUE OF HISTORICAL REASON (2016)
Jacobson, Jeffrey Willever
Lehman, Posmodernisme, modernisme tradisional, historisisme
Robert S. Lehman, dalam bukunya Impossible Modernism: T.S. Eliot, Walter Benjamin, and the Critique of Historical Reason (2016), memosisikan dirinya sebagai sarjana 'modernis tradisional'.

Kata kunci : femme fatale, perempuan, seksualitasABSTRACTThis study aims to describe the characteristics of femme Fatale contained in the novel Cantik Itu Luka. Through different female characters, these characteristics can be found. Using the femme fatale concept of Yvonne Tasker and Edwards, five female characters, Dewi Ayu, Alamanda, Adinda, Maya Dewi, and Si Cantik, can be categorized as femme fatale. This image is also strengthened by comparing such characteristics in the image of a virtuous woman. The final conclusion reveals that in the female characters there is and ambiguity between the protagonist and the antagonist, the femme fatale and the virtuous woman. Thus it can be said that there is a new image of women built by the deconstruction of sexuality in this novelKeywods: femme fatale, woman, seksuality

MENGUNGKAP KEBUNGKAMAN DALAM PRODUKTIVITAS FIKSI POP ISLAMI PENERBIT MIZAN
Cantini, Cucum
This research focus on the discourse of Syiah that alleged to Mizan over the first publication of Dialog Sunni-Syiah which published at 1983. Despite of that negative justification, Mizan publisher still exist and productive, especially for producing pop-islamic fiction. By using Pierre Macherey’s literary production theory, spoken and unspoken, then found a ideological islamization project and also an anti-western effort in the other pop-islamic fiction by realizing it through figuration and symbol inside the text; hidayah, islam figure, moslem gathering, ideal by wearing hijab, Arabian’s figure domination, history of islamic resistance, and preferring middle east background. Therefore, unconsciously, pop-islamic fiction reducing the negative image of Mizan as pop-islamic publisher as well as showing the existence of islamic power. Mizan’s presence appears because of the enthusiasm of intellectuals to the islamic ideas books, especially about Islam Iran Revolution at 1979. By the sensitivity of the discourse in Orde Baru era, then Mizan publisher be a part of negative image in islam. By the Mizan’s productivity producing pop books then the more the image faded, simultaneously awaken islamic power in Indonesia’s popular culture. Keywords: Pop-islamic fiction, Mizan Publisher, spoken and unspoken , silences

ISU-ISU KRISIS DALAM NOVEL-NOVEL DYSTOPIAN SCIENCE FICTION AMERIKA
Muallim, Muajiz
This paper focuses on issues and discourses about the crisis that existed in the dystopian science fiction (dystopian sf) novels. In this case, Hunger Games Trilogy (2008-2010), Maze Runner Trilogy (2009-2011), Divergent Trilogy (2011-2013) are the main object to see how far the text of dystopian sf novels address issues and discourses about the crisis within. Dystopian sf novels that are the counter-discourse of utopian sf novels has no longer present the utopian elements of the future, but, contrastly present the worst possibilities of the future. It appears that the dystopian sf writers present narratives about crisis, poverty, darkness, and pessimism in their novels. It even reads as a form of criticism and warning that the writers are trying to convey to the reader through fictional texts. In the end, the conditions of crisis seen in the text of these dystopian sf novels open its relationship with the world's history outside the text. Keywords: crisis, dystopian science fiction, America, history.

Proyeksi Astral: Analisis Wacana Fiksi Posmodern dalam Naskah Film Insidious
Rauf, Ramis
insidious, astral projection, death and dying, discourse analysis, postmodern fiction.
This study aims to analyze astral projection as a concept of Death and Dying by using a postmodern fiction discourse analysis perspective in Insidious movie script. This study found that astral projection is a capability possessed by a person to leave physical body and explore an astral world or the spirit world. Astral projection is a death and dying concept that is presented as one of the postmodern fictional strategies known as superimposition. This strategy illustrates that there are two worlds that accumulate and co-exist with each other. Its presence is a way of deconstructing thoughts about something that is considered uncanny and unusual as well as a counterpart of totality that puts the ontological side of the existence of something. It is said by McHale (1987) that it is a sister-genre of postmodern fiction. Science fiction explores ontological issues in order to build a good story while postmodern fiction simply presents the problem without having to build a story. Furthermore, both genres can adopt each other's strategies. Meanwhile, postmodern fictional relations and fantasy fiction are the same, borrowing strategies for exploring ontological issues.

Transformasi Perempuan dari “Liyan” ke “Diri” dalam Tiga Cerita Rakyat Kulisusu: Analisis Wacana Feminisme

feminism, transformation, women, story, Kulisusu.
The study examined three female characters in Kulisusu folklore, each titled: Perselingkuhan Istri Lakino Lipu; Putri yang Hilang; Lagumba dan Wa Ure-Ure Ngkamagi. Three of them narrated women in prototype uniformity, in a concept that is more fluid than some kindergarten like Bawang Putih Bawang Merah or Cinderella. Fluidity mean that the liberation of women from all forms of subordination: a class polarization that took shape into archetypes dichotomous construction. The characters are identified as women who are not only clever, but also able to make decisions in determining their fate. This study will address two issues: 1) how women were originally seated as "liyan"; 2) how the plot revolves and places women as "self". Both are implicated by using the feminism discourse perspective. The review will help parents sort out stories that address the values of plurality and gender equality principles, and stories that must be abandoned for internalizing the bias in the eyes of the quality.

Being a Sensible Woman: Hypertextuality in Grimm’s Fairy Tale and Juliet Marillier’s Wildwood Dancing
Adji, Alberta Natasia
Cultural Studies; English Literature; South-East Asian Studies
Fairy tale, hypertextuality, women, re-vision, sensibility
The re-writing of a fairy tale caters for characters, settings and values that have undergone changes, be it explicit or implicit. In Juliet Marillier’s Wildwood Dancing, the main female character Jena is transformed from the passive and obedient Twelfth/Youngest Princess of Grimm’s The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes into a brave and sensible figure. She challenges the oppression of patriarchal rules by taking control of her household in her father’s absence, securing her four sisters’ welfare, and keeping secret of their nocturnal dancing trips in the Other Kingdom despite being threatened by her domineering male cousin. In this way, Gerard Genette’s Hypertextuality strives to investigate the underlying patterns manifested in both literary works by applying the Re-vision element. Through it, Jena’s and the Twelfth/Youngest Princess’ sensibility trait and the socio-cultural settings surrounding them are highlighted in order to determine the importance of the overall hypertextuality process that takes place between the two. Later, Jena emerges as the more influential heroine than her predecessor character because she does not stop struggling to be regarded as an independent young woman who can always give advice and make decisions for her family affairs sensibly. Also, it is eventually proven that sensibility is indeed a strong weapon to be possessed by women in order to empower themselves against the conventions of a patriarchal world.

Shame and Alienation in Kafka’s The Metamorphosis
Minar, Karla Sharin

Literature, Philosophy, Existentialism
This article explores Sartre’s concept of shame and alienation in Kafka’s The Metamorphosis through the portrayal of the protagonist. By focusing on the interpretation of the characteristics of Gregor Samsa through New Criticism approach, this article reveals that shame and alienation may occur when a person realizes that one is judged by others and sees oneself through the eyes of others. This way of looking at one’s identity is problematic because it creates complexity within the existence of the self. Through his fantastical transformation into an insect, Gregor cannot help but seeing himself from his family’s point of view. Instead of fighting for himself, he is made to believe that he deserves to be alienated. From the analysis of the protagonist, it is revealed that his being selfess and dutiful in a way trigger the shame and alienation that result in his submission to death. NOVEL CHARLOTTE KARYA DAVID FOENKINOS: SEBUAH NARASI TENTANG DISKRIMINASI, RASISME, DAN HOLOCAUST
Intan, Tania
LITERATURE
Discrimination, Racism, Holocaust, Charlotte
The Nazi ruling since 1933 made no secret of his dislike of Jews. Adolf Hitler even declared that "rational antisemitism must lead to a system of legal opposition, the ultimate goal of wiping out all Jews" (Mein Kampf, 1925: 27). He also developed the idea that Jews are the evil race that dominates the world. Nazi anti-Semitism is instilled in religious situations and in a political context. Then, the Nazis added a further dimension, racial anti-semitism. With the logic that Jews are not religious but racial communities, the Nazis launched various aggressions in the form of discriminatory, racist, and Holocaust. This dark phenomenon in human history is revealed in Charlotte's novel by David Foenkinos, a French writer who often receives literary awards. The discussion will be conducted by descriptive analysis method through structural approach which includes assessment of character, background, and point of view. AbstractThis research is a study about the creative process of a postmemory work in the memory transmitting process from the first generation to the next generation and the important role of gender in the transmission process, and the perspective of gender in postmemory’s work. The purpose of this research is to expose Dmetri Kakmi's traumatic memory transmission structure in his novel "Motherland" and to take a look at genderization in traumatic impressions that emerged in his work. The researcher used Postmemory theory initiated by Marianne Hirsch to perceive 1) the transmission memory and the role of gender in Dmetri Kakmi's "Motherland" novel; and 2) the genderization process in that novel, and the results of this research: 1) Mother Land the novel is formed by two transmissions, familial transmission from the writer's family that led the writer to having an imagination of his late grandfather, and affiliative transmission. In the transmission process, gender plays a key role in choosing who and what narration to be told to post-generation; 2) The gender roles in the "Motherland" novel can be found from such varied sources such as infantilized to the Greeks, and hyper-masculinized to the Turks as icon of destruction. Keywords: postmemory, trauma, transmission, identification, gender.

This study analyzes memory formation along with its transmission and forgiveness as a tool used by Gin as the main character to form the discourse of truth within the scope of society's way of thinking that has not been touched by the modernization of the Meiji Restoration era. Hanauzumi's novel implies that a bitter and tragic past can not be forgotten just by Gin. And furthermore, there is a chance redemption done by Gin by striving to realize his goal of reaching the doctor's profession as a sense of solidarity among fellow women. The purpose of this study is to present memory and forgiveness as a tool used by Gin to form the discourse of truth, thus giving him the power to fight for justice for women's rights, rights for himself and for other women. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. In the last two decades, women’s issues have been attracting public attention, particularly for those who see and study women from male world of construction. In the literature framework, the existing problems are not limited to the women’s involvement in the creation, criticism, and as readers only. However, the growth of the creation of female poets has opposed to men's superiority towards women. The role of gender and institution of marriage, which have been the symbol of hegemonic masculinity, has become a deconstruction and parody. Subaltern, Politik Etis, dan Hegemoni dalam Perspektif Spivak
Setiawan, Rahmat
Culture & Literature
Budaya & Sastra

Kurniawan, Heru
Moral Reasoning, Children's Stories, Obedience of Punishment, Instrument Relativism, and I'm a Good Child.
Children's stories in Bobo Magazine and Kompas Daily represent both levels of praconventional and conventional moral reasoning. From these two levels of moral reasoning, there are three stages of a child's moral reasoning, namely moral reasoning for obedience of punishment, relativist-instrument moral reasoning, and moral reasoning of a good child. Of these three moral reasoning, the dominant moral reasoning of children is the relativist-instrument and the orientation of a good child, while obedience reasoning does not dominate. This shows that mutual moral awareness of children is transactional and existential, namely children are conditioned to do good because they want to get a prize, and awareness of their desire to be good children. With the reality of such children's stories, our children who read children's stories wake up to the realization that I am doing good because of the gifts and awareness to be a good child.

politik, restorasi meiji, hak perempuan, novel

One of the stereotypes of gender is femininity in which it is closely related to women. Femininity with passive characteristic is constructed to limit their moves. In Eka Kurniawan’s novels, the femininity is unstable. It brings an assumption that he is conducting the femininity deconstruction. This research is aimed to find out and to explain the femininity deconstruction in Eka Kurniawan’s novels. Three Eka Kurniawan’s novels were chosen as the data source of this research, they were Cantik Itu Luka, Lelaki Harimau, and Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas. This research used critical discourse analysis method with post-modern feminism approach. There are seven forms of femininity deconstructions in Eka Kurniawan’s novels such as feminine jobs, feminine images, feminine habits, feminine symbols, feminine principles, feminine desire, and beauty. Femininity deconstruction shows that femininity has strengths and weaknesses. Femininity is conveyed and practiced either by men and women characters in his novels. Through femininity deconstruction, Eka Kurniawan draws images of how femininity is being deconstructed and how the characters in his novels questioning, rejecting, and or making use of femininity.

PARADOKS NARASI PENYELAMATAN KESEIMBANGAN EKOSISTEM DALAM NOVEL KAILASA KARYA JUSUF AN KAJIAN EKOKRITIK

literature
Literature, Sastra, Indonesia, Ekokritik
Abstract This research discusses a literature that brings the issue about nature and environmental issues exploited by a farming system as means of caring for the earth. Environment represented in the novel entitled Kailasa by Jusuf AN as a form of ecology criticism and how the narrative of ecosystem rescuse in the contestation of ecological. The purpose of this research is to identify environmental damage and what attitude that should be taken as an act of saving nature and the environment in contestation of acosystem diversity. The destruction of the agricultural environment of Kailasa Village is the main issue of Yahya's character in saving nature and the environment. The anthropocentric nature of farmers' communal movements opens contestation to access natural resources. Nature is used to gain big profits, both farmers and other interested parties, but there is no balance of long-term agricultural areas. Through an ecocritical point of view, look at the narrative of saving ecosystems in the contestation of ecological interests. This research uses an ecocritism in literature that depart from the view of Cheryll Goltfelty. The method used is descriptive kualitative to dissect the problem. Anthropocentric make Kailasa nature and environment degraded which can be seen from humans who exploit nature. It is identified that there is a shift of eco to ego consiousness in Kailasa communitty while the change is motivated by material-oriented life for the sake of the economy. After nature is degraded, there is a tendency to back eco consiousness. Seen in the new generation after fifteen years of contestation, but changed on polyculture plants (carica). Narrative described appears to represent the ecocentric thinking that protects evil anthropocentris, but there is a paradox in the struggle for represented ecosystems. It is identefied from Kailasa community that they keep the antrhoposentric perspective though nature and the environment has been degraded. Keywords: ecocritic, ecosistem, antrophocentric, ecocentric, extensification, intencification, contestation.

PERSPEKTIF SANTRI DALAM KARYA SASTRA: SEBUAH REPRESENTASI WACANA RELIGIUS-HUMANIS
Astutiningsih, Irana
Pujiati, Hat
literature
Sastra, budaya, representasi, wacana religious-humanist
Kata Kunci: wacana; pesantren; sastra pesantren; religius-humanis; representasi Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) is suspected as a fertile place for the radicalism which treat the united nations and states of Indonesia as a republic. As a religious school, pesantren is supposed to be representative for humanism since religion is taken as a living guide for human being. This article discusses representation of religious-humanist discourse in Pesantren Literature as the material object; they are short stories entitled: “Diantara Dua Pilihan”, “Cinta Sejati Itu Tidak Mudah” dan “Seruas Bingung”. The short stories were published in Tanwirul Afkar,a monthly bulletin in Salafiyah Syafi’iyah Islamic Boarding School at Sukorejo, Situbondo, East Java Indonesia. We apply Stuart Hall’s representation theory as a tool to analyze the stories. Focusing on Foucauldian’s discursive method in constructionist model that emphasizes on the knowledge production in discourses through language, we map the contextual background to find out the genealogy of religious-humanist discourse production. The result shows that religious-humanist discourses in Pesantren literary works are presented through universal human values, instead of being trapped in a rigid dichotomy between right and wrong that lead to a radicalism. Religiosity comes along with the universal human values as a representation of santri writers’s partialit on religious-humanist discourse through Pesantren literature. Keywords: discourse; pesantren; pesantren literature; religious-humanist; representation

POSTMEMORY DALAM NOVEL TAPOL KARYA NGARTO FEBRUANA
Assa, Anna Elfira Prabandari
literature; history
sastra, indonesia, postmemory, memori, PKI, Orde Baru, komunisme
Kata Kunci: postmemory; transmisi; memori; identifikasi; PKI; Orde Baru; komunisme The narrative of revenge that is still being reproduced by the conflicting parties increases the stagnation of reconciliation of the '65 tragedy. The willingness to acknowledge each other's mistakes is a big step in reconciliation. Unfortunately, PKI victims only remember when they were the PKI’s targets, before the G30S. Meanwhile, the PKI only remembered the post-G30S, when they were victims of political genocide. A novel titled Tapol by Ngarto Februana captures this phenomenon. Authors who have never experienced directly on '65 tragedy make Marianne Hirsch’s postmemory suitable to be applied. Februana gets affiliative transmission from living witnesses and other books as a collective memory. His identification towards the past then manifests in characters and narratives in Tapol. Februana distinguishes between communism as an ideology that defends the oppressed and the PKI as a party that has practical politics. Through the character Mirah, the author also criticized the New Order as an authoritarian regime that was not only an enemy but also all those who dared to oppose it.Keywords: postmemory; transmition; memory; identification; PKI; Orde Baru; communism

KRISIS IDENTITAS DALAM CERPEN A PAIR OF JEANS KARYA QAISRA SHAHRAZ
Kusumaningrum, Ayu Fitri
Literature; Cultural Studies
Multiculturalism; Hybridity; Mimicry; Ambivalence; Identity Crisis
A Pair of Jeans” karya Qaisra Shahraz. Kata Kunci: multikulturalisme; hibriditas; mimikri; ambivalensi; krisis identitas Multiculturalism becomes a glorified discourse in the twenty-first century because it reflects the modernity in which the meeting and mixing of two or more cultures are considered as a reflection of a modern society that is open to acculturation. Today, multiculturalism is a common phenomenon in various parts of the world because of the ongoing process of migration in various countries, one of which is Britain (United Kingdom). According to the 2011 census, it was recorded that Britain was home to eighteen different ethnic groups scattered throughout Britain and Pakistan is one of the ethnic groups, ranking third with 2% of the total population in the UK. These eighteen ethnic groups live together so their cultures meet and are mixed in the space of multiculturalism. This multiculturalism then triggers an identity crisis. Using contemporary literature published in the twenty-first century, this study aims to reveal how Miriam's identity crisis, a Pakistani Muslim woman living in Britain, is described in Qaisra Shahraz’s “A Pair of Jeans”. By applying the method of post-colonialism analysis of Homi K. Bhabha, this study finds that the process of hybridity and mimicry in multiculturalism can lead to ambivalence in the form of identity crisis. Keywords: multiculturalism; hybridity; mimicry; ambivalence; identity crisis

Kata kunci: Lu Xun; bangsa; revitalisasi Chinese literary works in the time of New Cultural Movement are interrelated with the reality of Chinese society at that time. Therefore, the knowledge upon historical aspect and socio-political circumstances are needed to gain deep understanding of a single literary work. One of distinguished author which represent the transition of Qing Dynasty to Republic Era of China and is regarded as the pioneer of modern Chinese literature is Lu Xun. By elaborating sociological approach, this article aims to observe the revitalization of nation’s idea in “Kǒng Yǐjǐ” (孔乙己) (1919) short story by Lu Xun. This article elaborates extrinsic elements that cover social context on which the work is produced. However, close reading analysis is also applied in order to preserve in-depth analysis. This article finds out that the author, through his work, builds a commitment to revitalize the idea of nation which step over traditional values. The degradation of those traditional values symbolically represented through Kong’s life among Chinese society. Keywords: Lu Xun; nation; revitalization

Ideologi Perlawanan, Kritik Sastra Materialistik, Imamah Zaidiyyah, yaman Utara
Kata kunci: ideologi perlawanan; kritik sastra materialistik; Imamah Zaidiyyah; Yaman Utara This article attempts to explore the ideology of resistance in the poetry anthology Ilā Ṭarīqi al-Fajri (On the Path of Dawn) was created in 1960-1979 by Abdullah al-Baraddūnī, a blind poet from North Yemen. The ideology of resistance in this anthology was analyzed by using materialist literary criticism, which was used by Terry Eagleton. The method used in this study is the dialectical method, namely reciprocal reading between the internal elements of the poem with external elements. The poems were created when Yemen was under control the Zaydi Imamate, who arbitrarily exercised his power. The poetry was chosen as a genre to express the ideology of resistance because of the conditions of blind poet, literary production in North Yemen which made poetry as a folk literature, and the social conditions of Yemen, where the majority of the population was illiterate. The ideology of resistance in this anthology is resistance to the arbitrariness of the ruling government, which did not recognize freedom rights, political rights and economic rights of the people of North Yemen. In addition, there was a resistance to the ideology of Imamate. The ideology of Imamate was replaced by an ideology of the republic which provided space for the people of North Yemen to participate in the management of the country and to pursue a more prosperous life. Keywords: ideology resistance; materialist literary criticism; Zaydi Imamate; North Yemen

Kata Kunci: Strukturasi; Agen; Struktur; Anthony Giddens; Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck As social beings, humans interact using a distinct set of knowledge and experiences. This research aims to analyze ethnocentrism in the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck by Hamka through the perspective of Giddens’ structuration. The theory of structuration rejects the notion of dualism by highlighting the duality of agent and structure. Every agent acts on a schemata or structure in a certain space and time. Furthermore, the agents' social activities conversely affect the structure. In literary context, agents refer to both writer and characters in literary work. The result of this study indicates that the phenomenon of ethnocentrism showed through the actions of the characters in the novel isthe manifestation of the author's structure. The novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck is a media of communication for Hamka as an agent motivated by his desire for improvements and changes in the structure of Minangkabau culture. This work is also able to change social system that actually constructs Hamka ethnocentrism structure. Keywords: Structuration; Agent; Structure; Anthony Giddens; Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck.

The Buddha in the Attic karya Julie Otsuka. Kata kunci: diaspora, narasi, historical poetics, picture brides, post-memory United States of America which is acknowledged as the land of immigrants has lured millions of those who seek for a bright future to its coast. As the land of immigrants, diaporic phenomenon in America has been explored extensively in literary world. However, a very few number has yet to conduct a study on Japanese diasporic phenomenon in America. To begin with, this study attempts to describe the diaporic phenomenon of Japanese women who came to America as picture brides in Julie Otsuka’s The Buddha in the Attic. Not only narrating the the story of picture brides in America, The Buddha in the Attic also tells the story of Japanese migrants who ended up in concentracion camps during the Word War II period. To solve the problem aforementioned, this study applies Alan Swingewood’s Historical Poetics to get adequate results. As the novel is written in first person plural prounoun, Julie Otsuka is said to create narratives on Japanese picture brides and Japanese migrants collectively. What the author does is assumed as the post-memory of being the third generation of Japanese migrants (sansei) in America. LANSKAP SIBER SASTRA: POSTMODERNISME, SASTRA POPULER, DAN INTERAKTIVITAS

Postmodernism, Pop Literature, Cyber Literature, and Interactivity
Kata kunci: Posmodernisme, sastra popular, siber sastra, interaktivitas This study aims to reveal the relation among postmodernism, pop literature, and cyber literature. By the understanding of postmodernism as a cultural movement, popular literature as escape literature, and cyber literature as a consequence of the shift in literary production that utilizes the internet technology, this study revives an assumption that the three have a fairly close relationship. The approach of this study is phenomenological with descriptive analysis techniques. Postmodernism results in a shift in decentralization process, so that the margin between the noble and the popular get blurred along with the phenomenon of social media that faces writer-reader interactivity as a new mode of literature, such as the use of social media (facebook, twitter, wattpad, etc.). Those offer intimacy between writers and readers, as well as how the discourse of freedom of writing becomes realistic without requirement toward intense competition that is full of power and legitimacy. Of course, the writer-reader interactivity is difficult to be realized in conventional literary production (print version). Keywords: Postmodernism, pop literature, cyber literature, interactivity

FOLKTALES AND RITES OF PASSAGE IN RANDA JARRAR'S A MAP OF HOME
Djohar, Hasnul Insani
Contemporary US-Muslim women's literature
Randa Jarrar, A Map of Home, Literature, Identity, Folktale
This paper examines the struggle of American-Muslim women to negotiate their identities in literary works published after the invasion of Iraq (20 March-1 May 2003). In this case, I examine Randa Jarrar’s A Map of Home (2008) in order to investigate how Jarrar both negotiates her identity through folktales, naming, and rites of passages. By engaging with postcolonial studies, and working within the frameworks of cultural studies, this paper aims to investigate aesthetic strategies that Jarrar (Egyptian-Palestinian-American) deploys in her writing. Jarrar also respects her Muslim intellectual forebears, such as Muhammad al-Ghazali (Iran), Muhyiddin al-Arabi (Spain), and Jalaluddin Rumi (Turkey), by emulating their tendency to combine in their writings allusions to the Qur’an, ancient storytelling traditions, and contemporary social issues in order to engage with their readers. In doing so, Jarrar uses folktales, naming, and rites of passages to question American belonging and eurocentrism in her fiction. These techniques enable Jarrar to reveal her multiple and complex identities and work to represent both her pride in being Muslims and her desire to claim her rights as American citizens of Muslim descent. Keywords: Randa Jarrar, A Map of Home, folktales, Rites of Passages, US-Muslim women’s literature Artikel ini membahas perjuangan perempuan Amerika-Muslim untuk menegosiasikan identitas mereka dalam karya sastra yang diterbitkan setelah invasi ke Irak (20 Maret-1 Mei 2003). The advancement of technology, particularly the internet, has given cyber literature a prominent public recognition for its wide availability online and it has also acquired a place among the world of literature. Using the concept of zeitgeist proposed by Krause and relating it to the cyber literature on Instagram with the cultural phenomenon that is happening in Indonesia in 2018-2019, this research aims to address these questions: (1) why Instagram becomes the zeitgeist of cyber literature and (2) how Nanti Kita Cerita tentang Hari Ini (NKCTHI) reflects the zeitgeist of cyber literature on Instagram. Other than that, by considering Yongqing, Pignanolli, and Hayles’ works on digital media and cyber literature, this research found that the proliferation of cyber literature does not diminish printed literature. Instead, by investigating the phenomenon of the rising popularity of NKCTHI in Instagram, this research came to what Yongqing has suggested that cyber literature complements printed literature. Kata kunci: pachinko, zainichi, krisis identitas, Korea, Jepang This study discusses the representation of Korean zainichi in Pachinko novel by Min Jin Lee. There are several categories of Korean zainichi amongst Japanese society, which are pluralist, nationalist, individualist, and assimilationist. The first generation in this novel is treated unfairly because of their ethnicity which makes them live in slum area. The second generation is represented by two contradictive characters. The first character, Noa, wants to be Japanese, which leads him to choose the path of naturalization. Through naturalization, this character is regarded as an assimilationist who ignores his ethnic identity and lives as a Japanese citizen to obtain equal social status. Meanwhile, the second character, Mozasu has the opposite tendency of Noa’s. He does not choose the path of naturalization and tends to maintain his true identity as a Korean. The third generation is left uncertain about their identity, although they were born and grow up in Japan. With his background education, Solomon as a third-generation is still underestimated and considered unequal to Japanese people. The pachinko business, which is always being associated with Korean migrants, is a business occupied by each of the second and third generation characters, showing that the status of Korean zainichi will not change easily, and they will remain in marginal position and being underestimated. MENELUSUR TRADISI: RENAISSANCE DALAM NATIVE AMERIKA DAN PERSPEKTIFNYA TERHADAP KEMATIAN DALAM KARYA LESLIE MARMON SILKO
Luthfia, Karina Hanum
Literature
Literature, Culture, Postmodernism
Kata kunci: Kematian, Tradisi, Renaissance dalam Native Amerika The subtle meaning of death on people’s life tends to generally depict the idea of natural phenomenon. Meanwhile, tradition and culture exist within their significant potency to influence the nurture of death customs and protocols. In this context, Native American deal with the concept of death as a particular tradition of their tribal legacy. However, colonization and assimilation process on their social order had transformed the Native American perspective on death into an advancement dispute.Concomitant to Native American renaissance movement, bias on the perspective of death is elucidated by tracing the root of death’s concept which is emanated from Native American tradition. The mechanism of decolonizing death’s perspective against White’s concept is represented in Native American literary works by Leslie Marmon Silko. As a consequence, the research employs critical discourse analysis on post-colonialism paradigm. The results of the work manifest: (1) Perspective on death through Native American lens considered as a tame death. (2) Death additionally scrutinized as social balance mechanism according to Native American value. At last, (3) Funeral protocols performed in tribal system essentially expounds the resistance of Native American people against the assimilation and White domination.
